we have reservations for 3 people at DGC and have requested bunk beds. we will arrive around around noon this sunday for a 4 night stay.

after reading posts here, it sounds like there are not a lot of bunk bed rooms available. i'm guessing they would be allocated to families of 5 first and to groups of 4 next.

has anyone else had a bunk bed room at DGC for a party of three? do we have any chance of getting one?

I would guess it depends on how busy they are. Usually the bunkbed rooms are an upgrade room, I think.

Just a question, why did you request them? Do you have one adult and 2 children? The reason I ask is that the bunk beds are not standard twin size-- they are a little smaller than twin size. An adult would be a bit cramped on them. We stayed in a room (4022, great room, courtyard view, close to the elevator, and we could see the fireworks) with one queen sized bed and the bunk beds. The bunks had a trundle underneath, so all three of our kids fit. DD12 and DD10 are 5'5" and 5'2", but they sleep curled up anyway, so they were ok.

Good luck! The GC is a wonderful hotel; we loved staying there.:thumbsup2

it will be 2 adults and a 3 1/2 yr old. my plan was to drape a dark sheet around the lower bunk so she could take a nap while we keep the lights on (at night time too). we did this last year with a pack n play, but she's too big for that now.

last week, while requesting an early check in, i was told they were about 95% full.

Ah, I see. That would work well.

Just something I remembered reading from the Unofficial Guide-- there was somebody whose child needed their "own space" to nest and settle in the room. They actually packed a lightweight 2-man camping tent! You can get the kind that pack up quite small and light, just 3 pounds or so, so you could carry it on the plane if you're flying. Then you set it up in the corner of the room with a child's air mattress/sleeping bag combo (my DD5 has a Disney princess one) and they have their own space. Sounds odd, but it's an idea. Then you could drape one side with the blanket or sheet to shut out the light.

Then of course, you might get your bunkbed room! :goodvibes

I have always received a bunkbed room when I've requested it, and it is not an upgrade. I got one last week for myself and my 2 kids, no problem. They can never promise you one, but it doesn't seem that it would be all that difficult since you will be arriving fairly early in the day.

We couldn't get it last year with 4 of us, but it was during the holidays. The front desk told us the numbers of rooms with bunkbeds in the entire hotel (I can't remember anymore), but it was very few of them. They try to give them to parties of 5 first (so that no one needs to sleep on the floor). That is followed by parties with connecting rooms. Then the 4's and so on. So you are pretty low in pecking order. But, they did try very hard.

I got one last month for just DGS and me. We had a view room but not concierge. The week before our trip, I called to confirm our reservation and to make sure they had my bunkbed and Grizzly Peak view on file. They did and both were honored. We didn't arrive until late afternoon, either. I think it's more a function of how full the hotel is. We were there 2 weeks before Easter but still in the spreak break timeframe. Good luck.

Off topic, but..I have stayed at GC 3 times and never seen the courtyard..where is this!? Where does the monorail go by??
Also, from where at the hotel is the best view of the GC construction??
I guess I always race to the parks and not pay enough attention to the hotel.

Here's a map of the GCH layout. You can see the courtyard on it. The monorail cuts right through. Not sure about the construction, though some is by the pool near Whitewater snacks. (cause the CM there told me the local kitty has gone MIA because of the construction)

We've always gotten bunk beds when we request them but there are 5 of us so maybe that theory about kids not sleeping on the floor holds out for us. When I called and reserved mine, the CM said that they assign the rooms about two days prior to arrival. He said if you have multiple requests on your reservation, they go through and figure out what they think might be most important to you. So, if you have requested two adjoining rooms, theme park view, and bunk beds in both rooms, they'll look at it and try to think as you would....now, how they can determine that, I don't know. But, it would make sense to me that if you requested adjoining rooms, that would probably be your first priority (it really would be mine as I would have kids with me and I would want to be able to monitor them). Then bunk beds in both rooms. If bunk beds aren't available in two adjoining rooms, then they may prioritize your request to be something like - adjoining rooms and bunk beds in only one of them.

Now, if you have paid for a view room, my understanding is that you are guaranteed to have one. However, I've heard a few cases where there was a problem and the guest did not receive a view. I'm not sure what they do to compensate you for this.

Sorry this was so long....and really didn't answer your question. I just know that this is what the CM told me when I called. In fact, two different CM's told me this on different occasions.

In case you're interested, here's a picture of a bunk bed at GCH ...

Have never pursued a bunk bed room at GCH, but my kids love Kids Suite rooms. Wish GCH offered a room design where the kids can have their own space, but the bunk bed setup is at least the closest thing available.

It's more than a theory. It was straight from the horse's mouth. The pecking order that I listed in my earlier post, was provided to us by the hotel's manager.

Bunkbed had been our first request. They simply didn't have enough to go around while we were there. We could have switched into a bunk room half way into our stay (they did try to be very accomodating). But, once I unpack, who wants to pack up again and move?

They had tried everything, even looked at putting us in a view bunkbed room (free upgrade). It just didn't work out.

Hopefully, the op won't find the hotel as full on her trip.

That's good to know, honeymom! We have adjoining rooms AND a party of 5 on May 1 so hopefully our request can be fulfilled. I'm with you, though....who wants to change rooms once you've unpacked!!!!
