any chance of walking into a TS restaurant and hoping for a table at MK without an ADR? There is NOTHING avail right now for TS.

I wouldn't count on it.But it could happen.Depends on time of day, the restaurant and how large you party is.But with free Dining going on, it makes it alot harder

in short...no

its not worth even trying because your chances are low and it's just going to cause aggrivation/ disappointment.

do consider going over to one of the monorail hotels and see if you can get it there...that is a nice break in the routine

I'm going to disagree with the other posters. I think it's very possible. I was just at AK on Saturday for a birthday outing. The crowds were pretty low, even though it was a weekend. I had had a horrible time getting a lunch reservation for Tusker House. Couldn't even get one for Sunday (tried about a month or more ago) and finally got one on Saturday for 4 pm. I logged online Saturday morning before we headed for the park, just in case, and had NO problem getting a reservation for 1:15. It offered me several alternatives, even. I cancelled the 4 pm, of course. When we got to the restaurant, although it was busy there were tons of empty tables and we saw people walking up.

just nabbed the wave for 5 pm - perfect in time to eat and get to MK for the 7 pm parade.

Seated @ LTT around 1:30 in mid-August. Going later or earlier may help.

that is the exception...not the rule.

I'm going to have to disagree with you yet again. I live here. I go to Disney quite often this time of year. I suspect a lot of people are making multiple reservations and then either not showing up or cancelling them the day of or close to it.

i hear what you're saying (as a former orlando resident, current homeowner, former WDW employee who worked heavily with the dining system, and still frequent traveler/ DVC member)...

but the other thing that always makes me answer no to this kinda question is that i just don't trust the employees at the restaurants to do the right thing and seat more people if their system says they're full

1. That would mean more work...and they are low paid...which tends to kill the "extra effort"
2. The managers are also low paid...and my experiences are that they are not very competent. I can't fully trust that they would even choose to seat more people...there's really nothing in it for them.
3. The standards have fallen so that i see CMs dealing with people in much shorter, rougher manner than would have ever been permitted in the past. they feel like chattle so they treat the customer that way...more and more each day it seems. And i won't take the chance of having someone being impatient/ disrespectful/ or combative with my wife or children. we are not that way and i don't tolerate it from someone else...especially not there where it is completely unacceptable.

Me...i don't mind...I had a CM cut me off about two years ago from asking a simple question that wasn't reallly related to reservations outside of Liberty Tree two years ago.
I unleashed hell...because nobody in a nametag should ever be permitted to be disrespectful.

so that's kinda where i'm coming from.
this i know: the dining plans have taken alot of fun out of dining and changed the fundamental experience at WDW...and i'm not likely to forget or forgive that anytime soon.

Now, there is something where I wholeheartedly agree with you. We haven't even renewed our Tables in Wonderland card the last year and a half now. Just not worth it anymore ... and since we don't have the discount card, we don't go to the resorts nearly as often for a night out, especially since we live in Altamonte Springs.

Any chance I'm going to win the lotto tonight?

There is always a chance, but with free dinning and the DDP in general it is unlikely.

Keep trying to book on line before you go, things can open up.

The day you are there you can check at the customer service place, but most likely you will see a sign outside that says there are no reservation available for any restaurant in MK that day.

Still you can check back later in the day or eat at one of the monorail resorts if they have something.

I tried to do the wing it thing with the DDP and it just does not work for the most part.

I would agree that it seems highly unlikely, but I'll share what I overheard a couple months ago.

First, a disclaimer: I don't know official WDW policy regarding this, and I entirely understand that our experience may have been a very isolated incident! And this was during value season in July, so maybe the rules vary by season.

When we reported for our lunch ADR at Liberty Tree in July, I overheard a CM telling a guest that there is a time in the afternoon when they take walk-ins for dinner. I think they said 4pm to 5pm, but my recollection is fuzzy. I just remember that I was surprised to hear the CM say that.

We often get up in the morning and decide to go to WDW for lunch or dinner that day. Sometimes we'll call on the way down to see about availability and much of the time the restaurants we like ar "booked solid." It's not unusual for us to swing by that same restaurant and get seated.

It's easier to get seated as a walk-up for two people than with a larger group.

ADRs don't always account for every table in the restaurants.

We're finding a lot, and I mean a lot of people are making three or four ADRs for every meal just to cover wherever they may be when that mealtime comes. That accounts for two or three no-shows per meal for a lot of people.

Be flexible. If you still can't get into your first choice, have some back-up choices and be willing to eat at a counter service if no table service is available.

Yes, the resorts are a good option, especially during park hours.

Free dining and some other plans have definitly affected most of Disney dining in a significantly negative way.

I noticed the OP is going in December, but it doesn't say WHEN in December. Christmas week, walk up, traditional meal times might be nearly impossible. On the other hand, the 2nd or 3rd week, non-traditional mealtimes, being open to less popular restaurants, maybe.

Twice we have walked-up to CRT before LUNCH time and were "worked-in". We were only a party of 2 though. Once was in Sept., the other in DEC. Both times we were seated by the windows too.
