Any chance DVC pricing on Disneyland will improve

Current discount on Annual passes at Disneyland for DVC members is only $20. With the opening of Grand Californian Villas in September do you think the discount will increase to be more comparable to the discount on WDW Annual passes? What about the possibility of Annual passes that are good at both parks? Just wondering if anyone else thinks either of these is possible now that DVC is at Disneyland. Thoughts?

I personally don't think they will ever make an AP good for both coasts...and if they do, I want it for Tokyo instead. :)

As for the discount, who knows? There's always a chance. But I think the AP prices at DLR are pretty good even without the discount, especially considering you get discounts on most food, and on most merchandise if you buy the Premium pass.

I agree. I don't think we will ever see an annual pass that will work for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The annual pass at Disneyland has only 2 parks, while Walt Disney World has 4 parks. The lower price of the Disneyland annual doesn't warrant the same discount as the Walt Disney World annual.

Just my opinion.

I was at Disneyland in California a few weeks ago and was told some interesting info from a cast member, Disney is currently exploring the possibility of a dual annual pass but he didn't think they would go ahead with it. The thing that I found interesting is the number of annual passes that are sold at each location while WDW has under 200,000 annual pass holders DL has almost 800,000

This to me is both shocking and interesting...:confused3

But the 800k figure includes lots of low-end APs sold to specific markets with plenty of black out dates. Hardly a fair comparison??

Why not? Florida sells a Resident Ap "sold to specific markets with plenty of black out dates." (i.e., the ENTIRE summer)

Standard pricing for WDW Theme Park Annual Pass is $469 (adult); equivalent pass for DL is $389. I'm comparing passes that have no black-out dates, allow park hopping, and include parking. The DVC discount brings either pass to $369. Not sure that is entirely equivalent value given WDW's 4 parks vs DL's 2 parks??

FWIW, I live a short drive from DL but hold APs for WDW. I'm 2 days into my DL Summer Pass for SoCal (3 day hopper for $99). My DH is one day into his DL Summer Pass which was only a $30 upgrade from his free b'day pass. Gotta love that ... $10/d hopper! :)

Ah, good point. I didn't know the FL pass had black-out dates.

EDITED TO ADD: I checked WDW AP page. The Florida pass with Black Out dates is listed as a "SEASONAL Pass" not an AP. DL uses the term "Annual Pass" even for those with heavy restrictions.

Just like in CA there are two versions of the resident pass. The "all year, all access" for more money and the "blackout date" version. The difference seems to be that in FL the dates are more "concentrated" in blocks.

That said I have a CA AP and am not a Southern CA resident and mine can't be used most Saturdays and other "premium" days this summer. Disney World does not have that option.

CarolA,

Since the source isn't citable, we can neither nail confirm the numbers listed (200k/800k) nor gain clarification of terms ("AP" vs "AP/Season Pass"). We might as well give up. ;)

OP: I, too, have a story that begins, "I was at Disneyland in California a few weeks ago and was told some interesting info from a cast member ..." On June 20th, I was told that a combined pass was unlikely as the media readers employ different technology based on site (FL/CA). Replacing the scanners/readers involves considerable expense -- and that is why my CM contact felt we wouldn't see a Universal or even US AP any time soon.

Sure would be nice though ...

On another board, when discussing the crazy attendance at DL on Tuesday June 16 (more than 50K), the breakdown of DL passes was given at about 300K Premium, another 300K Deluxe and the remainder 200K as So Cal and SoCal select. So even if you just compare the Premium AP with all WDW APs, there are still more APs at DL. The huge population of APs at DL is the reason that you need to look at AP blackout dates when planning a DL vacation. -- Suzanne

There is no need to get sarcastic as I was just relating my experience.

This is interesting. I wonder what the population of each area is. Maybe there is a correlation there.
