Any Canadians want to offer their thoughts on the FW campfire/pony rides

have changed plans again.
Originally we were going to do a resort type holiday (Orange Lake) and toss in a couple days at SeaWorld. But for a lot less $, we can stay at vacation village at parkway and sicne this place is pretty basic we will be looking for things to do besides a couple of days at SeaWorld.
Since I really want to go back to Disney (but just did all the theme parks and don't really have $ for more disney tix) we are thinking about:
1. 1/2 day at AKL to see the animals
2. FW (pony rides and campfire)
3. Boardwalk area (early evening)
This way I can get a bit of a disney fix

My ?s: have any Canadians been to FW and the campfire/pony rides and if so what did you think of it?
Also, what else could we do at FW? I think we will eat at trails end?
Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
To fill in the rest of the week we are going to Blue Spring State park to swim with the manatees and do a couple extra days at seaworld since the price is the same (anytime ticket) for several extra days.

We haven't done the bonfire at FW, but we did spend a lovely afternoon visiting the FW petting zoo and pony rides PLUS a great lunch at Trail's End. I highly recommend it! To save $$$$$ have lunch [instead of dinner] at Trail's End Buffet and then spend the afternoon with the farm animals and pony rides. You can also take a ferry boat to MK entrance. You get to see space mountain and the castle without the cost of a ticket. Also...check out if you can actually enter MK for a little shopping. I recently read that you can have up to an hour on Main Street USA for shopping. A character meal will give you the WDW feeling too! Sandra

We've done the pony rides. It wasn't too exciting. They led the pony's around a small corral. We did the campfire too. It was fun. Chip and Dale were there, There was a CM with a guitar and we sang some songs, and watched old movies. It was free. There was a charge for the pony rides.

Perhaps you could take a monorail ride, or boat ride, tour the hotels, shop, watch the Water Parade, see wishes from the Poly, or have a character meal. If you are checking out FW be sure to see the lawn mower tree. All of these things are free, except for the shopping and meals suggestions.

You can bring your own marshmallows & stick or buy their kit for pretty reasonable $. (sorry, don't remember how much, but we're cheap & thought it was a decent $ for convenience -- roasting sticks, graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows)

It was so nice & relaxing to do the campfire, sing-along & watch the movies under the stars. May want to bring a blanket depending when you're going. You sit on bleachers (if you don't have your own camp chairs with you).

Electric Light Parade was a free fun thrill too.

We also really liked taking the ferry to/from Ft.W & MK.

Just walking around & seeing some of the other camper's set-ups was neat too.

I know people on Camping Board used to write about seeing the MK Fireworks from the Beach.

Also, before December they had started some Family Activities like Bingo & other games at Ft. W. Don't know if still going on or not. We never made it to any -- too busy in The Parks.

I suggest that you check into the times of things before you head over. At this time of year the pony rides close at 4:50 and the singalong and campfire starts at 7 with the movie starting at 7:40. The pony rides were $4 and were for kids under 10 or 12, I think. I'm not sure how much the times change during the year. You have a bit of time to kill in between if you don't want to eat dinner at Trail's End. We didn't have a chance to check out bingo (at 6???) or any of the other activities, but were only a few goats in the petting area last week, and checking out the horses at the barn won't take all that long. The fish food stuff has been removed from the docks, so a wander to the marina has a little less to do now. You could check out the Settlement Trading post and get a Disney shopping fix in. You could try for the Hoop dee Doo at 5, then go to the movie - that is not the cheapest dinner in FW, but it is fun.
