Any Canadian Advice on Car Rental in Florida for August ?

I like the Air Miles idea:)
I checked the Airmiles site, and in "the terms and conditions" it states:

"This certificate is valid at all participating Canadian locations"

You had no problems using it?

You have to make sure you are looking at the right certificates. Airmiles has Canadian and US certificates for National/Alamo.

The US Certificates are quite a bargin at 650 miles for $100 US.

Use corporate code SW2358 on dollar website. If you like the rate go to Southwest airlines website and become a member and print the membership card. Its free. We have picked up great rates when we are in Orlando.

Dollar has a good rate when you use the Promo Code: OOAG. I got it from Mousesavers.com

We just used Dollar to rent two cars with OOAG code. :scared1: We were not happy with the dollar customer service at all. We had a 7 passenger SUV and 8 passenger van booked with OOAG. We had pickup at the Regal Sun resort and drop at MCO because we were staying at CBR. They did not have either car there for us on our day of pickup. We had to take a 5 passenger SUV, all of the 3 children were in the back and luggage to the roof. For the other car they gave us a 12 passenger van instead wich had no trunk space and all the luggage had to placed on the back seat. All of this took an hour and half to get organized.:confused3 We were very dissapointed and will not be using dollar again in the future. I hope this helps.:yay:

That is too bad about dollar. We are going in September and it is just the 3 of us, so I reserved a compact with them because the price is good.

I am planning on trying priceline a couple weeks before we go to see if we can get $11-13/day. If we can't get it I thought we would a least have the dollar reserve. Hopefully we will have better luck with them.

We are going Aug 25-Sep 1. Last week, I managed to get a small SUV from Alamo for $179 before taxes, $192 after taxes. :thumbsup2 Pickup and dropoff at MCO.

My coupon code and discount code were from Costco.com. I was surprised at getting those rates. It took days and weeks of trying. The rates seemed to vary all the time. I was initially looking at $300 rates. I suggest you try every day like I did and you'll come across a rate that will be more agreeable. Good luck!

I did this and didn't get anything like you did. We're looking at Aug 24 - Sep3 and small SUV still came up $700+. I guess I have to keep trying?

I had to try every day for weeks and months (March/April/May) to finally get the rate that I posted, which is the one I was satisfied with. I actually just tried again last night to see if it could go any lower and I noticed that the rate for my mid-size SUV rental went up $10. Needless to say, I am keeping my current reservation.

While I was trying for weeks and months, I also plugged in whatever discount codes and coupon codes I could get my hands on. I went to Mousesavers, AlaskaAir, and the car rental websites. A lot of the online coupons ended June 30/09, so I took a chance with the Costco discount + coupon code, which ended Dec. 31/09, and I just happened to get lucky there.

So keep trying every day and keep plugging in different codes. Keep an eye out on the Transportation Boards. There's currently a thread there where Disers are looking for discount codes beyond June 30. I'm keeping my eyes on that one too, to see if I can still bring my current rate down. There's also a thread on those Boards explaining why car rental rates are so sky high this year.

Good luck! Please keep us posted!

Another thought, maybe my rental for 7 days yielded me a better rate than for a rental for 8+ days???

I had the same issue. Nearly fainted when I saw $1400 for 2 weeks.

I cleared my browser cache and made sure I put in that I was from Canada.

Came back with $179 per week for mid size SUV.

Well, I'll have to ask, how do I clear my browser cashe? Is that the same as clearing cookies?
