Thinking about doing a long weekend there this summer.. any suggestions on places to stay nearby??? thanks!!

No shortage of places to stay. Just about every major chain has at least 1 hotel nearby and quite a few have 2 or more locations. Might as well start with your favorite hotel chain and see what's available. Also look into the Bounce packages, they come with free parking and make the visit quite worthwhile.

my all time favorite is Kingsmill, but there is also the Williamsburg Marriott...and a Marriott Courtyard.

Kingsmill is great, you can walk to the park on a pathway (not even the main road) so you wouldn't have to pay to park (about $11 a day I think). We would always drive over, but we were envious of the Kingsmill guests, just a short little walk and you were "home".

We just returned from our fourth stay of '09 at the Kingsmill Resort. Unfortunately, there is no walking path to the resort from BG. There is, however, a free shuttle that runs directly from the resort to BG.

I would highly recommend Kingsmill as it is the nicest and the closest resort/hotel to BG. They have beautiful views of the James River, a beach, a marina, peddle boats, sail and Jon boats, bike rentals, an indoor and outdoor pool, spa, 4 restaurants and a deli/coffee place, convention center, golf, tennis, game room, free shuttles to Colonial W'burg, the Prime Outlets and BG/Water Country.

The housekeeping is wonderful and they offer double and king rooms, and 1-3 bedroom suites. The one bedroom suites are almost 1000 sq. ft. and beautiful.

We never stay anywhere else. I do recommend that when you book a room you request a top floor, without an adjoining door. You will hear every foot step, etc... above you if you have a room above you. And any noise will carry easily through the connecting door. Our request is always honored and we haven't had any noise issues at all on the top floor.
