This may seem like a silly question because I know how great Disney is at keeping the bugs at bay, but we want to stay at a cabin on our next trip and my husband thinks it may have more bugs than other resorts due to the fact that it's in a campground. (I'm the one who can't handle bugs well). Appreciate any info!

We were just there from January 18 to the 26th. Now, granted, it was January, and a little cool, but we had ZERO bug problems. Did not see any outside around the cabin, or inside either.

Last time we were there, it was in August. Can't remember seeing any bugs inside our cabin at all. Saw an armadillo outside our cabin but no bugs. We'll be there in a few weeks and I'll report back on the bugs.
It's Florida. There's bound to be bugs, but nothing to complain about.

I hate to be the negative one, but you will undoubtedly see what are called "palmetto bugs", which are essentially large cockroaches. The problem is that these live *everywhere* in Florida, because they thrive in warm, humid environments. They are all over the place, even in the parks, which isn't bad housekeeping on the part of Disney. They are just so prevalent, like ticks on most of the east coast! You'll see them more at night, and I have seen them on almost all of my visits to Disney and FW in particular (because of the trees and vegetation). The good news is that I've never seen them inside a trailer or building at FW, although we did see them inside Space Mountain! I hope this helps and doesn't scare you away- I just want to be honest! There is so much to love at WDW that hopefully a few bugs won't lessen your enjoyment of it!

Yeah, I know there are tons of roaches and palmetto bugs down there, but I've never seen one in the resorts at disney or heard of anyone seeing any there, but I just want to make sure people haven't been seeing them in the cabins! It's one thing to see them on space mountain, it's another to see one in your bed!

We stayed 19-26 December in two cabins. We saw no bugs in the homes at all. Of course, the cabins are set in the not-so-dense woods, so although I do not recall any pests, you may encounter some critters outside.

I think the homes are a great value and fun. The best, most pleasant experience was renting a golf cart one evening and traveling through the campsite loops. The campers themselves were awesome--arguably some of the most deluxe accommodations on the property. At Christmas, it seemed every one was trying to have the most elaborate Christmas light show in the camper neighborhood. I wonder if there are any non-holiday lights the rest of the year. Anyway, have fun!!!!

The FW cabins are an awesome place to stay. Our stay at FW was one of the most relaxing WDW trips I have ever taken. You won't be roughing it, in any sense of the word, by staying there. They are as clean as any WDW resort room and I didn't see any bugs of any kind when we stayed there.
I am pretty sure that our February '05 vacation will be spent there and I can't wait.

We just got back from there last night after a 9 day stay and I never seen one bug in the cabin. This was our 2nd stay there in a year and we never seen one last year either. They must spray the cabins in between when guests check in /check out.

We were there for a week in the middle of July last year. It was myself, a 16YO, and a 7YO. We went to the pool most evenings (very short walk). I don't swim, but the kids did and I tried to relax at the pool. They mosquitos were pretty bad at night. I took the 7YO to the beach for EWP and fireworks one night. I don't remember that being so bad. However, my son stayed at the pool and forgot his key. When we came back to the cabin, he was wrapped head to toe up in a large beach towel and sitting on the picnic table. He said the mosquitos were eating him alive. He should have went back to the pool.;)

We've stayed at FW a number of times in their cabins & never had a problem with bugs.

There was one evening when we returned to our cabin & found one of those tiny lizards (can't think of what they're called) on the wall in the bedroom.

I called the front desk explaining that I couldn't sleep with it in my room. They told me they were endangered & they couldn't kill it. I said, "Yeah, right now it is in danger of my husband. I am coming up front to get a new key for a new cabin!!".

They were very accommodating & at 11 p.m. we moved all our stuff to a new cabin. Of course, there could have been a lizard in that or "our lizard" could have been living with us all week - but I didn't know it!!! Knowing it was there gave me the heebie geebies!

When I stayed there a couple of years ago there wasn't any problems with bugs inside the cabin. I've been to other places on vacation and actually found what I'm pretty sure was a scorpian! Now that's some heebie geebies!!
:sunny:
