Hi !! I'm new to the DIS boards! :goodvibes

I would like to know if there is any brazilian scrapper in this board!! I live in Rio de Janeiro and it is really difficult to find scrap material here! Would love to get some help!! :rotfl:

I've started scrapbooking this year and i'm loving it!! I'm doing pages for special dates, like birthdays, mother's day, valentine's day!! and then by the end of the year we're gonna buy a book to put all the 2008 pages on it!! :goodvibes

but it is REALLY EXPENSIVE to buy scrapbook material here, 'cause most of it come from the USA. I bought something here for 30 reais (aprox. 15 dollars) and saw on a american website that it costs 4 dollars on their store!! :scared1: i hope i can find a brazilian that knows a cheap store around here!! oh, and i'm 17 years old..that means i don't have much money!! :lmao:

I'm going to New York, Orlando and Miami in July, and i hope i can buy lots and lots of scrapbooking stuff!! :goodvibes and then i'll do a trip scrapbook!! :woohoo: i'm really excited about that!! of course i'll post my pages here after the trip :cloud9:

I'm so glad i found this board!! you guys do really beautiful pages!! i hope i can get to your scrapbooking level one day :rotfl:

I'm not from Brazil but do have family there, I am dying to go there!
I would definately suggest stocking up on your trips to the USA. Also try ebay, but shipping might be high to Brazil.
Adeus!

Anelise, you have such a beautiful name! :goodvibes I'm also new to the boards and I'll be 17 next month! :) I just started scrapbooking with my mother this year and have had a lot of fun.

Hey, I have a suggestion for you. When you are here July, if you can find a "Michael's Craft Store" or a "JoAnn Fabrics," either of those places would be wonderful stores for you go buy a lot of stuff for cheap. Both stores get great sales on their scrapbooking supplies. Try to go online and check their sales. JoAnn Fabrics gets scrapbook paper on sale for 5 for a dollar and sometimes 6 for a dollar! Michaels gets paper for 4 for a dollar on sale. Both stores have great sales on Jolee stickers and regular stickers, like 40-45% off on some weeks! They also get 40% off on embellishments like eyelets and brads and other colorful stuff. Sales always begin on Sundays and if you are here for more than two Sunday's, if the stuff isn't on sale the first week, hold off for the next Sunday becuase scrapbooking supplies always goes on sale every other week! The sales are so good they are worth waiting for. :woohoo: You can get a ton of stuff for your money, trust me! I just love these stores. :goodvibes

If you can go to a Walmart store, they have great prices on ribbons and stickers. They have tons of stickers for 99 cents and I love their ribbon selection. If you like using flowers, the best place to get those are on eBay or Oriental Trading Company. They have wonderful prices there and so much to choose from!

Have a terrific trip to the USA this summer!

Welcome Anelise and Dakskid!
Sadly I am not from Brazil, so I have no idea where there are any scrap stores in your area. We do have scrappers from England that have the same problem.

I too would suggest stocking up while you are here in the states. Michael's, ACMoore, JoAnn Fabrics, and Walmart all have great supplies. Some Walmarts are getting rid of their craft departments though so you may or may not find things. Target also carries a few supplies as well.

I would suggest making a list of the things you are looking to scrap, so you will have some idea of what you will need. That way you won't over spend.

thank you all for the kind replies and the great ideas :cloud9:

i think i'll be able to stop by a Michael's near Florida Mall and Wallmart!! :goodvibes i'm planning on buying stuff to make around 20 pages of this trip. one for each day :rotfl:
i wanna buy basically everything :lmao: paper, stickers, alphabet stickers, ribbons... everything is REALLY expensive here, so i never tried using ribbons, eyelets, cool stickers,... i think i'll go crazy when i see tons of cute stuff..and on sale!! :rotfl: that's even better!!

I've been searching for scrapbook stores in Manhattan, but the ones i found seem to be expensive or have few stuff. Does anyone now a good place to buy scrapbooking supplies in Manhattan??
Same thing in Miami!! I'll be staying in Miami Beach!! Anyone? :goodvibes

thanks :)

DaksKid , i love my name!! :goodvibes thanks for the compliment

Hi Anelise, I do want to come to Brazil, especially to see some familia that I have never met. They live in Sao Paulo. I am hoping one day I will make it out that way! I have family in Manhattan that travel to Sao Paulo every year and when I head down to Manhattan (I am in Canada) I always go outside of Manhattan to Target and JoANnes and Michaels to get my scrapbook supplies. There aren't any of those large craft stores in Manhattan (or atleast there wasn't when I was there last year). Miami I don't know about, I have only been to the Orlando area. Check out the stores websites to find the store locations that may be near to where you are staying. And if you are ever up in Canada we have a lot of scrapbook supplies here too.....LOL.....the USA is cheaper but we are cheaper than the stuff in Brazil:cutie:

Hello again, I just wanted to add one more thing. Stores that are specifically scrapbooking stores that sell only scrapbook supplies are usually MUCH more expensive. We only shop at them as a last resort when we absolutely can't find a piece of paper we need. JoAnn Fabrics and Michaels both have HUGE scrapbook supply areas and oftentimes they sell far more scrapbook materials than the stores that specialize in scrapbook materials! I can find paper for 5 or 6 for a dollar at JoAnns (and they have a gigantic selection) but papers are always around 1.59 at the scrapbook store. :scared1:

I don't think I'll be able to get out of Manhattan, but I'll try to!! :goodvibes And if you come to Brazil, don't forget to stop by Rio de Janeiro!! We're way better then São Paulo :lmao: just kidding!! Rio and São Paulo always have these fights about who is better!! :rotfl:

Oh, it's great to know that!! I'll keep that in mind and save money while in New York to spend everything at Michael's in Orlando!! :rotfl: Here in Brazil, papers cost around 4 reais (2.5 dollars), but if they have anything on it, glitter, texture, anything, you can start praying 'cause they're gonna be waaaay over 2.5 dollars!! :scared1: i get scared at the scrapbooking store, really!! and ribbons, buttons, stickers?? no way i can afford them!! Jolee's stickers cost around 40 reais (25 dollars!!) each!!! :confused3
i'm gonna buy lots and lots of stuff in the USA, for sure!! :rotfl:

Hooooooly cow! :scared1: That is way too expensive. The JoAnn Fabrics sales advertisement came in the paper today. Their paper is on sale for 6 for 9 cents! Jolee stickers go on sale for 40% and sometimes 45% off, which takes them to as 1.50 to 3 dollars depending on which ones you are looking at. Regular stickers also go for 40% off and that takes them down to a dollar to 2 or 3 depending on which ones. Some are big! You're going to REALLY have fun when you find a JoAnn Fabrics. That is my favorite place. Michaels is a close second.

Those textured papers are at both stores. Sometimes they go on sale for 40% off too. That takes them down to anywhere from 60 cents to 1.20 depending on which ones you are looking at. My mom got a bunch of textured papers to do Monsters Inc and Block Party and she got them on sale for 60 cents. The ones for Block Party and the Monsters ride have glitter on them! Gotta love sales! :woohoo: I love using brads and eyelets. They go on sale at JoAnns for about 2 dollars. There are tons of embellishments. They have ribbon that goes for 99 cents for up to six yards and the yarn section is fun! Also, the paper stacks go on sale for about 10 bucks, but you got a LOT of papers, and some stacks of textured papers. I love the "Once Upon a Time" papers the best. They are soooooooooo pretty! :goodvibes

I cannot WAIT to hear what you think of shopping in JoAnns or Michaels. After what you have been paying, you're going to be in heaven! :cloud9:
