Any benefit in online check in at Aulani when you booked an Island View Studio?

I am debating to check in online versus waiting to day of in hopes of some pixie dust coming our way. Has anyone had any luck/seen any benefit with checking in online before the trip in terms of upgrades, good room, etc.?

Online check-in doesn't matter in terms of getting an upgrade. Upgrades only happen when Disney is in a bind and they can't assign you a room in the category you booked - i.e. room maintenance, overbooking, etc. When they can't fulfill what you've booked for whatever reason, they will upgrade you.

You can call and ask for a specific location. Ask for a room in the 'Ewe wing as high up as possible. You'll end up seeing the ocean. There is a thread on here somewhere of views and rooms. That was very helpful for us on our first trip there.
