Any advice on easing morning sickness?

I am in the middle of my 9th week, and morning sickness (all day sickness, actually) set in a few days ago. I feel so miserable! I guess I'm actually lucky, because I haven't thrown up or anything - but I've definately thought I was going to!:(

Can anybody give me any advice on how to deal with it? Anything that worked for you? We are leaving for WDW in a week, and it's really not going to be much fun if I keep feeling this yucky all the time.

Eat saltines in bed before you get up. Just a few will ease your stomach into the day. Worked for me (sometimes)

Keeping food in your tummy is very useful. Crackers didn't work for me, but I found that if I kept a wide variety of food in the house and just ate whatever sounded good, no matter how strange it seemed, I felt a lot better. I can't tell you how many times I sent DH out for Taco Bell food. I know it doesn't sound like what you'd eat when your stomach is upset, but it worked for me.

I read a book called No More Morning sickness that helped some. It suggested that you think about different qualities of food (sweet or salty, hot or cold, creamy or chunky, etc.) and figure out what described the food that you felt like. Then you should eat something that meets all of those criteria. Don't feel bad if you have to eat potato chips and Coke to start feeling better. You can eat a salad or something healthy after you're feeling good. And really, your baby will live off of nutrient stores in your body for the 1st trimester. As long as you're getting your folic acid, you can wait to start eating healthfully in your 2nd trimester.

If smells bother you, try carrying lemon wedges with you everywhere. You can sniff that when you come across something disagreeable. That could be especially important at WDW where there are lots of smells.

Good luck! You will start feeling better soon. You'll be at WDW for long enough that it's quite possible that you'll start feeling better there.

Ginger worked for me. Whenever I felt really bad, I just took a little ground ginger and washed it down with water. I like the taste of ginger, and sometimes I would slowly chew on a piece of fresh ginger root. If you don't like the heat or taste of ginger, you could try ginger capsules.

I hope you feel better soon!

Suck on Jolly Ranchers :)

For me, I felt so much better if I just threw up and got it over with. Good luck, it's a horrible feeling. :(

Saltine crackers didn't work for me, but mineral water helped. I always had chewable Tums with me, these REALLY helped me with the nausea. The good thing is that I only experienced nausea during my first pregnancy, the other two were nausea free.

I hope you feel better soon!

BTW, Congratulations!

Like Kermit the biggest thing for me was eating a little bit all the time. I had problems during my entire pregnancies and if I let myself get hungry I'd get sick.

Often a milk shake or something like that would calm it down. Just do the best you can to keep something in your stomach, that's way mornings are so bad.

The worst trigger for me was brushing my teeth. Since the alternative wasn't possible I just lived with it. Any morning that I could get through it without throwing up was a good day :)

My problem was brushing my teeth shortly after getting up. I learned to postpone the teeth brushing a couple hours.

Another thing was taking the vitamins early would make me sick, Doctor suggested I take them at dinner and that helped a whole bunch.

Kermit, Thought I was the only oddball that craved taco bell, Ate tacos all the time.

I had forgotten about the vitamins. They made me feel so ill!! My doctor had me switch to Flintstones. :D
I craved pickled eggs...:o

Soda crackers worked for me the one time I had morning sickness...thanks to Chinese food the night before! That was the only time I had it.

I just ate non-stop from morning till night!

1st DS I craved liverwurst, 2nd ds was smarties and 3rd dd was tootsie roll midgies, had to be vanilla flavored.

For me if I could sip a bit of milk ( slowly) or eat a couple crackers... then I'd feel better and could eat something "real"
It's weird, but the nausea does seem to be because you are hungry, so if you can ease the hungry part, then you can eat and fix the problem.
And as soon as you feel hungry, eat SOMETHING, don't let yourself get REALLY hungry!

I was also told to eat some cheese or other dairy before bed-- it takes longer to digest and helps with the 'first thing in the morning' empty tummy.

Hugs!!!

Hi Gem, I really feel for you, all-day "morning" sickness is so horrible!

I second the ginger and saltines advice. I also sipped lemonade or gatorade almost constantly, which seemed to work for me. For some reason, KFC original chicken sandwiches worked too! ;)

One thing that I didn't try is SeaBands ... but a friend of mine swore by them.

Have a fantastic time in WDW and I hope it abates some by then!
:D

I agree with Kermit - keep food in your tummy. I had to eat constantly with my second pregnancy; the only time I didn't feel nauseated was when my stomach was full and the less full it was, the more nauseated I was. And if it was empty I would vomit bile.

But then one day I woke up and realized I felt normal again. I actually wanted a cup of coffee for the first time in months. At nine weeks I bet you are just about to that point.

I had morning, noon, and night sickness with my first pregnancy. I agree with don't let your tummy get empty. Also, lemon hard candies, ? lemon sours, worked wonders for me and also lemonade. I tried the seasick bands on my wrists, but they didn't work at all for me.

On the upside, my doctor told me that morning sickness was a sign that your hormone levels are high and its a sign of a healthy pregnancy. You're also about to hit that 12-week mark so maybe that will be it for you. Good luck and congratulations.

I had two miscarriages and no morning sickness. With my third pregancy, I was sicker than a dog for the entire time - I didn't gain any weight at all during the pregnancy - I just couldn't eat anything other than saltines, jello and hard boiled eggs. Drank milk, Coke or 7-UP. But I didn't mind it at all since I knew that this pregnancy was going to take and I would be able to carry a baby to term. My doctor told me the same as Cindabella's Mom. I also switched my vitamins to later in the day instead of first thing in the AM.

I only had a few days of "morning sickness" and I found it to be a combination of just getting hungry and taking my vitamins at the wrong time of day.

I started taking my vitamins with dinner instead of breakfast and I ate something every 2 hours or so. Every evening I would make little snacks out that I could take to work or where ever I was going. Those little snack sized ziploc bags worked well. I would take grapes, cheese and crackers, etc. every where I went for about 2 months along with a big bottle of water. If I woke up during the night I would also try to eat a few crackers of something before I went back to bed.

Hope this helps... :)

I have no advice (I was lucky). Just thought I'd tell you good luck with combating this. Hopefully it'll pass in a week or so for you.

Can your dr give you something to help?
