Any Advantage in Buying Tickets at Undercover Tourist and Upgrading to AP?

I've searched and can't seem to find an answer. I know you can upgrade a ticket purchased through Undercover Tourist to an Annual Pass. With Disney tickets, Disney credits the gate price of the tickets you are upgrading so that you get a net discount on the annual pass. Does Universal do the same? If I know we are getting annual passes, should I buy a 4 day ticket from UT and upgrade in the park, or should I just order the AP from Universal online?

Just cut out the middle man and order directly through Universal.

I emailed Universal directly about this last week, the response was just head to guest services to upgrade to an annual pass.

However I am still unsure if I am going to be returning which is why I wanted to know if I could upgrade if my plans change, if your sure I would just go straight for the annual pass - no wasting time when you are at the park that way

I assume this means there is no monetary advantage in upgrading from an undercover tourist ticket like there is when upgrading to a Disney annual pass?
