Ants in the parking lots?

I read somewhere that you have to be really careful when parking your car at the port because of ants?

We will be parking at the Radisson after a long road trip (dallas to ohio to cape canaveral). I know we will be eating in the van during the time. Would it be wise for us to find a gas station with a vacuum somewhere and clean out the inside of the van before we leave it parked at the Radisson?

Has anyone seen/heard of or even personally had a problem with ants in their cars?

We've never vacuumed out the car before we left it at the port, and we've never had ant problems. THere are signs that warn you not to leave food in the car, and so we haven't left packages of food...but we never worried about the crumbs.

We've had ant problems a few times. Now I buy ant traps and put them in the car or van. We've also had the problem in Vero. Since buying the ant traps though, no problems. I think it happened to us because we were parked close to a tree or bush.

There are no more ants in Port Canavaeral than any other place in the South. If you leave food exposed in your car for a week in the hot sun, you can expect that some critters may find it. All it takes is one ant to find a food source, and here comes the colony.

Case in point - I left an unfinished Coke in the cupholder of my car while it was parked for three days in the Atlanta Airport parking garage (can't remember which level, but not in the sun) - and when I returned the cup was full of ants. Is the parking garage infested? Not likey. I just didn't think about it, that's all.

If you don't leave a smorgasborg for some ant to find it, you won't have problems.

We have never had a problem there with ants or anything else.

Make sure for security reasons to not leave anything in site for would be thieves.

We parked at the port and I am POSITIVE we had crumbs in the car, but luckily we didn't have ants. We got rid of the garbage in the car and any food that migt have been in there. I did have an ant or two in SSR though! Yuck!
