My 5 yo DS bought a book form Scholatic. Ready Freddy. A boy version of June B Jones. He is in 1st grade. I just finsihed reading it to him last night.

This one was about him having nightmares about vampires. The poor kid would stay awake all night, and then be exhausted all the next day. He finally tells his mom and dad, and they tell him about the Dream Police. All he has to do is call the dream police, and they will come and get the vampire, and vaporize it with vanishing spray. The 1st night, the Dream Police didn't come, and he was mad. he thought they lied to him. But his older sister explained he had to CHOOSE who he wanted for the police and train them. He chose his 3 stuffed animal friends. they spent the afternoon training them, and that night, when the Vampire came, the Dream Police were ready! They took care of the vampire.

It was such a cute story. Anyway, the author explainsh how nightmares really bothered her as a child, and her mom and dad made Monster Spray. It is made with water and 2 drops of lemon juice or perfume. The kids make it themselves in a pump sprayer, then the spray it around the room before bed. The Monsters don't like sweet, lemony smells, so they stay away. She also mentions they don't like HAPPY pictures. So the kids can draws pictures of happy things and put them around the room.

The kids want to make the Moster spray today. I think it is cute. What a great idea!

My son went through a stage where he was afraid of monsters in his room, and I would squirt a shot of air freshener in his room and tell him it kept the monsters away. Now when we use the air freshener for its real purpose, he thinks we are spraying for monsters. :rotfl2:

My sister bought some of this once for her best friend's son. It was actually made with lavender oil. This way the monster goes away AND the scent calms the child.

Oh, I'll have to try that. We actually have monster spray at our house, but it's just water! DD is 3, a started talking about being afraid of monsters at night, and I had read about using "monster spray" in Parents magazine, I think. It works great - we spray all around her room ("make sure you get in the closet momy, 'cause that's where monsters usually hide"), and for some reason, she insists that we spray her stuffed Stitch! (but she still wants him in her room). I'll have to try the lavender oil to help calm her at night.

When I was little and afraid of monsters, my father made me my very own monster...he drew it nearly life size and we colored it and hung it on my bedroom door. My monster scared all the other monsters away! :flower:

But I really like the idea of monster spray!!

DD has the lavender scented monster spray.

A 2nd grade kid I was babysitting for last week was wearing his mom's crucifix to bed because he was so scared of vampires.

What a sweet thing for your dad to do.

My oldest DD was terrified of snakes - she would wake up screaming because snakes or worms were under her bed, in her bed. Poor thing would just be shaking - so we had snake spray - smelled like cinammon and we would spray it under her bed and on the covers -- as long as she could smell the cinammon she knew she was safe. :teeth:
