I have posted something similiar in the past but I didn't really understand the reply so....We just bought and will be going for our first stay in a DVC resort in December. We are taking friends and so are trying to make the best use we can of our points. Do you think that with the AKV becoming available just in time for that busy first 2 weeks of December that many members will be booking there making it easier to book the smaller resorts like BWV and BCV?

How does the booking work for AKV at first for:
1)those with home resort advantage and then
2) those without?

Would those without AKV as their home resort be able to try for a ressie in Dec. and if so on what date?

Thank you for your insight. :)

For December reservations, AKL owners can book beginning May 16. Non-owners (but those who own other DVC resorts) can book in June - I believe it might be June 6. So there is a short window for new AKL owners, then it opens to all DVC owners. Since even the owners have only 7 months at that point to book into Decemebr, there's not much of an advantage for this year. Once AKL is up and running with all of its units open, however, it will be just like any other DVC resort in terms of who can book at 11 months.

Remember that the number of AKV units coming online this year is quite small, and new AKV owners will most likely be wanting to snag those reservations. I don't think it will have much of an impact as far as opening up reservations at the existing resorts.

I don't think AKV will ever free up enough points at the smaller resorts to increase availability at the 7 month window, even when fully complete and all points are in the system.

IMO.. As each new resort gets added to the system, it gets harder and harder to book at a resort with fewer villas..

For instance, generally it's pretty easy to get into OKW or SSR irregardless of the season..

But... Try to get into VWL during Christmas, BCV/BWV during F&W, or HHI during the summer.. Quite a bit tougher..

This is the typical supply vs. demand graph... The supply of accomidations at the "smaller" resorts remain the same, but the demand grows since more and more members are joining DVC...

This is one of the reasons I made sure to buy into VB... I anticipated that as DVC expanded, the membership would want to stay at an offsite location... DW and the kids enjoy VB way too much not to be able to book it during the summer months, and we needed that 11 month booking window.

That's why we bought some VB points also, DH was concerned by the time SSR sells out and AKV comes on line, it would be tougher to get what we wanted at 7 months.
