Another "What are the chances" question..

So what are the chances of getting an OKW GV at 7 months? We own at BWV, but much prefer OKW.

This is for a future trip I'm planning for (2 years away). It would be in early November and coincide with the NJ teachers' convention.

I'd say not so good. Could you go ahead and book a GV at BWV at 11 months out? Then if you can't get the OKW GV at 7 months, you'd have a GV for your trip. Or get a studio and a two bedroom at BWV.

Any popular time for DVC members is going to be a hard time to get a GV at OKW. They don't require as many points and they are very big. And they are in high demand.

You might also try SSR or AKV at 7 months and see if those might be available.

I do not think your chances are very good, either. That's a popular time for DVC members and there are unlikely to be many, if any OKW GVs available at 7 months for that time.

Since you are looking for the future, consider renting OKW points to make the reservation at 11 months. Then you can rent your BWV points to cover the cost. Or perhaps you can find an OKW owner who would like to stay the BWV. You could transfer poits to the OKW owner if the BWV reservation he/she wants costs less than the OKW GV (likely).

The GV at BWV cost quite a bit more in points than do the OKW GV so I do not recommend making a reservation for a BWV GV at the 11 month window unless you do not have to borrow points to make it and would still be within your banking window when you can make the OKW GV reservation - consider that you will probably be waitlisted.

Thanks for your responses. You pretty much confirmed what I thought and so will have to go with plan B, which is renting the points for the reservation.

I don't have enough points to do a GV at BW for the length of time we want to be there. So...I'll try and get the OKW reservation by renting the points when the time comes. We'll be traveling with at least 3 rambunctious little ones, so I'd really like the room in a GV as opposed to a 2BR, but will consider that if I have to.

You know all the GV at OKW except for the handicap accessible ones are two story, correct? If you have three rambunctious little ones, the stairs could be an issue.

And only three of the buildings at OKW have elevators. The rest only have stairs. The three with elevators are usually reserved for guests with medical needs.

We just got back from a GV at OKW...we rented the points exactly 11 months out...so I started looking for a owner at the 12 month mark. My owner was super and has lots of OKW points...I found him here on the rent/transfer section. We had two 4 yr olds and two 20 month olds...no issue with the stairs. Hubby's had to cart the double strollers up the stairs...we did rent gates for the interior stairs...never used them...

With that said, we recently put in an offer to buy resale OKW points, so we could get a GV every three years.

We were in bldg 22, had requested 19, but they had a roof leak, and it hadn't been repaired yet...so, obviously they weren't fully booked, as they didn't seem too upset that it would be a few more days until the repairs were made...we were there the last week of March.

Yes, I am aware that the GV at OKW are 2 stories. The stairs are not an issue, as our little ones are used to stairs, but thanks for mentioning it. The stairs might pose a problem for families who have single floor living. I was thinking more of the living space the main floor will give us when they aren't sleeping.

Good plan, Granny! I will definitely keep this in mind as we get closer to the trip.

Our guys will be a bit older; 6, 5, and 4. Not sure if their parents will be bringing strollers or not, they rarely use them now (although I know if I were the parent, I'd be using one ), but their parents can work that part out.

Try calling today to see if a GV is available this year. They're taking early Nov 2011 reservations now.
Then try calling again for 2012 at the seven month mark to see if it's available.
This should give you a good indication of your chances.

We got one 2 years ago for the week after Thanksgiving. I dont remember how far out we booked, but we dont own there so it was after the 7 month mark. It was fabulous! Lots of room and very comfy. We had 4 bathrooms for the six of us! And the points were quite a bit lower back then.

I called this year at the 7 month mark for the last week of October. I had my choice of a Grand Villa at SSR, OKW and AKV. I was so surprised; I thought I'd have to waitlist.

I'm usually not what anyone would consider a lucky person, but after reading these responses I can consider myself to have been very fortunate. I was able to reserve two GVs at OKW at the 7 month window. We are visiting there in August, so maybe that's a very low-demand time.

I also called at the 7 month mark for a OKW GV for end of september and got one, HH option was not available, but other than that it went perfectly.

My back-up option also would have been a studio and a 2-BR somewhere else.
