Day 2--Monday, October 10, 2005
When I woke up Monday morning, I was still pretty upset about all of the problems I had run into at the Disneyland Hotel. I originally wasnt going to complain about the broom closet room they stuck me in, but after all the problems I had at the hotel, I didnt want to be stuck in that tiny room for the rest of my stay at the Disneyland Hotel. I went to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager, but there was not one on duty. One finally called me up about a half hour later. She agreed to move me to another full-sized room in the Sierra Tower. She told me she would arrange for a priority cleaning in the room so that I could get into my new room in the early afternoon. She offered little sympathy for the problems I had encountered with staff at the Disneyland Hotel.
After packing up my things and getting a bellman to store it for the day. I walked over to Disneyland for early entry. I immediately went back to Fantasyland to get on some of the attractions there that I knew would have long waits later in the day. I started with Peter Pan, followed by my beloved Mr. Toads Wild Ride (I miss this one at Disney World). I also went on the Pinnochio ride, which I absolutely adored, and Snow White.
I then headed over to grab a fast pass for the Holiday Haunted Mansion. Since there was no line, I went on the ride at that time, while still grabbing a fast pass for later. I absolutely loved this ride, and hope that they do this to the Haunted Mansion in Disney World, as has been rumored for several years. They took a cool attraction, and made it even better. I love The Nightmare Before Christmas so this ride was right up my alley! I tried to take everything in, but there is so much to see that I knew I had to ride it several more times on my trip.
I then stopped at the River Belle Terrace (I think that was the name of it--I may be wrong) to use my breakfast in the park voucher. I got a breakfast platter that included eggs, bacon, and pancakes. Everything was piping hot, and very tasty. It took a bit of time to get through the line, however.
After breakfast, I went on Splash Mountain (which is my favorite Disney World attraction). I really enjoyed this ride, although the one at Disney World is longer and has more drops. I loved the set up of the logs with everyone sitting one behind the other. I didnt get very wet, which was fine by me.
I went back to the Holiday Haunted Mansion and used my fast pass. I also took another ride on Indiana Jones. I cut back through Fantasyland, and took a ride on Alice in Wonderland and the Matterhorn. I stopped by and grabbed a fast pass for Space Mountain.
My uncle and aunt from Arizona were in California, so they wound up driving up to meet me for lunch. I walked out of the park and met them at Mimis Café. I got pot roast, my uncle got a turkey dinner, and my aunt got the lamb shank. I thought Mimis was very reasonably priced, and the food was better than most food I had at Disney during my trip. I started off with a caesar salad, which was very tasty. None of us had room for dessert.
After lunch, my aunt and uncle took me to Target so I could by some water and Diet Pepsi for my room. I have to say that I was surprised by how expensive soda and water was in the parks--it was quite a bit more expensive than water and soda at Disneyland.
I arrived back at the Disneyland Hotel around 1:30, and went to the front desk to see if my room was ready. My room was not ready, so I headed to Downtown Disney to do some shopping. I got lots of souvenirs for myself, my family, and friends, and paid for it with my Disney Visa card so that I could save 10%.
I went back to the Disneyland Hotel at 3:00 to see if my room was ready. I was told that it was cleaned, but needed to be inspected. They told me to wait a few minutes, and check again. I checked back again 15 minutes later, and it was still showing up as being cleaned, but needed to be inspected. The desk clerk asked housekeeping to take care of it. They called back and said that the room was ready, but someones luggage was in it. They entered the room again, and realized that it was my luggage in the room!
I was assigned room 2848 in the Marina Tower, which was on the 10th floor and overlooked the pool. This room was more along the lines of what I expected for the price I paid. It was very spacious, and the bathroom was huge with a great vanity area.
The basket from the night before was in my room, and this time it had the right card on it. It was from some of my DIS friends to cheer me up after the loss of my dad. It had a lot of neat items in it--Mickey and Minnie beanie babies, gold ears, a CD, a photo album, and some candy. They also left me some balloons and a breakfast voucher for the trouble I had gone through the night before (one of my DIS friends called the folks at Disney Vacation Planning to make sure that the basket got to me, and they had told her they would be adding something to the basket because of the problem).
After getting settled in the room, and checking my e-mail, I headed back to Disneyland. I took the monorail into Tomorrowland. I was surprised by how small the monorail was, and it was weird to see the open windows. It wasnt anywhere near as sleek as the monorails at Disney World.
Once in Tomorrowland, I grabbed a fast pass for Buzz Lightyear, and used my fast pass for Space Mountain. I enjoyed Space Mountain even more the second time around! I really enjoyed Buzz Lightyear. I liked that you can pick up the gun--I found it much easier to hit targets than I do with the stationary gun at the Magic Kingdom in Florida.
I then headed over to the Carnation Café for dinner. This was one of my better meals of my trip. I started off with a cup of baked potato soup, which was very tasty and thick. I also had a steak sandwich, which was accompanied by a green salad. The steak was very tender and tasty.
After dinner, I continued to tour the park, getting in additional rides on some of my favorites like Mr. Toads Wild Rice, Pinnocchio, the Haunted Mansion, and Splash Mountain. I left the park shortly before closing, and walked back to my room to crash.
