Another way to make a little extra cash for our Disney funds

Is anyone else getting nervous about their last email? I read the part about how quality is going to start being very important- the part in particular that made me nervous is when they said to put away your $10 webcams. I am using my digital camera, and just using the video setting- I have to splice 2 vids together each time because my camera doesn't film over 1 minute at a time. It looks best in natural light, but because it is easier to film after ds has gone to bed, I have to use overhead lights, and the quality is definitely lower. Now I am wondering if they will all be rejected next month because of this? I wonder just how picky they will be?:scared1:  :headache:

Oh my gosh! Not baby lotion too! We did that! I bet it will get moved. Bummer! I got my 100 $10 videos all in and approved, now just praying nothing happens and I get paid! DH had 67 $10 ones but some are baby food and lotions, seems all things they are recatagorizing, so who knows. He has 26 approved at $10!

I must say I am so thankful I did all my immediately this month! If only DH would stop giving me slack, he is so not into it!

I think the site is just overwhelmed. They did not expect DISers to come in full force:goodvibes
Still it does suck that they changed the payout 2 x this month! I was doing toy/games thinking it was $10 but AFTER I uploaded 2 of these reviews I checked this site out again and discovered they changed to only $2 payouts:sad2:
I have one approved so far.:woohoo: Pal Mickey at $2 but I figure that's $2 more than I had! I am thankful for whoever did the post to let us know about this one! :thumbsup2 Perhaps next month they will be done with their growing pains!

I found the video quality lacking when I switched from my camera's default to the required 300 x 240 setting. It's a lot grainier. I don't have a video camera and DH isn't going to let me buy one until we have some other things taken care of. He's esp not going to be happy if I buy it just for expo........

I agree! Whenever a video is approved, you see the dollar amount go up... it's like watching a bank account grow. Little by little, but cool. And while I am not at all happy about $2 payouts, I am so very grateful to Jennifer for pointing us toward expo. Thank you!!! tink

I am disappointed that they changed some categories from $10 to $2 but at least with the most recent change, they DID give us two days' notice. I did not like the first change ths month that gave us something like three hours' notice.

I am so thrilled that this site was mentioned here in the first place! THANK YOU!!!

I'm coming up with good strategies. I try to make the best possible videos I can and I am very careful to pick items that are only $10. As soon as I have a video done, I upload it in fear that they will change the price again!

Now, I have questions on the travel category. Can I review WDW, MK, EPCOT, AKL, and MGM for a total of $50? Meaning, WDW as a whole and each park as specifics? I can narrate over video and I can add in still pictures and I can write up a nice review. I would hate to go through the editing process if somehow they won't count each one. Also, can I do each country in Epcot as a single travel destination?

And I have another question on lighting:

I do my recordings at night. I try to light my office as bright as I can, but there isn't an overhead room light, just table lamps.

I have a light above the computer, one in the room, and one to my left just outside of the frame. I use the built in iSight on the iMac so it is not like I can just move the compuer closer to the light source.

Any other ideas? Should I flood the room with more light and avoid a backlight? Would it help if I hung a white sheet behind me to bounce light?

YES!!!! I not only did MK, Epcot, AK, and MGM but I have done EVERY restaraunt we have eaten at, I also did the Bippety Boppety Botique and Downtown Disney, so far all are getting approved!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome Lesley sure wish I could do WDW reviews but there is that whole conflict of interest clause, oh well. I could be racking up some dough there...lol.

Can someone clarify the new payouts for me, what is $2 and what is $10, we don't have kids so the whole baby/kid issue doesn't apply to us. But for other things, are electronics still $10?

Also, can I do each country in Epcot as a single travel destination?

:rotfl: :rotfl: Since they're included in your EPCOT admission, I don't think you can do that. It's just part of the destination as a whole.

No overhead lights here either. Helps with DH's migrianes but is murder when filming. In the past, I've hung a white sheet over a window so there is good lighting but no glare. It worked pretty well. You could do that with the backlighting to eliminate glare. Place a few lamps behind you and then hang the sheet. The sheet will allow for light to come through but it will be diffused so there isn't glare. I have to figure out how to rig a sheet in my LR to do this so I can have better lighting when I film alone at night.

I was browsing videos and came across a whole bunch entitled Holiday Tips from last December. They are kind of neat, people just giving tips on everything from wrapping paper ideas to shopping. It must have been a promo they did. They are kind of fun to watch!

Well it seems they are picking apart videos and rejecting...DH got about 6 rejections today on fishing lures. Im not looking forward to next month.

Updated to say uploading has been impossible today. Been trying to get just one video through for hours with no luck.

And geez, these $2 payouts are a real bummer... they sure took the fun out of it. I can't say I would continue with this hassle if everything goes to $2 per review. tink

Does anyone know if videos will get rejected for being over 3 minutes. Ive done a couple that have gone over and dont want to get rejected.

I've seen a few that are over, including the one about ASMo. I don't know what will happen. As the last email stated, it is ultimately up to the individual approving the review.

I have a question. The expo terma dn agreements said something about purchaser of the goods or services. I have a dinner service that I use for meals. Can I review that? As a whole and then the meals as well? I would think that they are $2 reviews but it would greatly off set the expense if I can do 10 meals a month (as long as there are no repeats from prev months) Any ideas? DH might like this idea since I will be more inclinded to purchase a few more steak and shrimp entrees just so I can review them.

I guess I'll have to look on the forums over there to see if there's an answer.

Ok what a big baby I am. I just went through my vhs tapes to see what I could review from disney and found one for CRT, so I start reviewing and as soon as one of the princesses comes over to my dd I just started bawling. My poor dh looked like a deer in headlights. I do not know what came over me, except that she had a birthday party yesterday and the girls were all talking about boys and it really made me realize how fast she is growing up. Gah I sure did feel like an idiot though.

Just so you know, we recently had a ton rejected because we reviewed Tae Bo VHS tapes for the exercise/fitness section they said "rejected because we do not accept VHS tape reviews". BUMMER!!!

Yep, no VHS tapes! I'll confirm what Lesley said except I happen to read it one day when I was looking. I have had videos approved that were over 3 minutes. I haven't noticed anything saying different, did I overlook it? It can't be over 50 MB though.

I’m really excited. For the second month in a row all 100 of my videos were approved. I now have 200 approved without a single rejection!

And in one week I’ll be in Disney!!! :cloud9:
