I know there are so many threads, but I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around it. We are going to buy resale and I want to make sure I buy the right UY. At the end of each year, my husband has to bid for his time off for the entire year. So, by the end of each year we know what weeks he will have off. SO is an August UY good for us because we will know in time to bank? We do not have kids yet, so I dont know when we will want to vacation when kids come. Right now we like the beginning of Dec. (I know that is a very busy DVC time). I hope I gave you guys enough info. Thanks!

Oh, and to allow for the 11month booking we will have to book a Nov or Dec vacation? Anyone who has experience with a job that bids vacation time for the whole year give me advice. My hubby just started 2 weeks ago, so we have no idea

UY month has nothing to do with when you can call to book. you can call 11 months in advance to book your home resort regardless of your UY month.

if you like the beginning of december, maybe an oct or dec UY is best.

the other question is when do you think you would "never" travel? pick a UY month that starts right after the 3 month period when you would most rarely go to wdw.

Hmm..I am not sure when we would rarely go. We are young now, and I know our vacationing will change when kids come along. My best guess is the beginning of the year(Jan-April) would be the time we would rarely go..

UY month only matters if you have to cancel.

maybe april or june would work best for you. if you have to cancel a dec reservation, you'd still be within your banking window if you cancel by the end of november.

assuming an april UY, here's an example: for a december 2011 reservation, presumably you'd find out in december 2010 whether you could get time off work. then you'd call in january 2011 to book december 2011 at your home resort - you can use banked 2010 pts, current 2011 pts (the ones you "receive" in april 2011) and borrowed 2012 pts if needed. if things change and you cancel the dec 2011 reservation by november you can bank any 2011 pts used to book that reservation.

a few reminders:

*you don't really "receive" 2011 pts in april 2011 - they are in your UY starting in 2008 or so...you just can't use them to book a reservation until you get within 11 months of april 1, 2010 (which is the earliest they can be borrowed forward).

*banking and borrowing are final transactions and cannot be undone. so if you borrow 2012 pts for a 2011 reservation, they will expire at the end of your 2011 UY.

Thanks. April or June do sound good. Thanks for the example :)
