I apologize for seeming so totally dense. About the time I think I understand and can answer my own questions, I get confused all over again. Here's the scenario:

I'm buying 150 points at VWL with an August UY.

The current owner has banked 66 remaining 2007 points for me (which if I understand correctly will now expire on 7/31/2009).

I was initially planning a family trip in a 2BR for May 2010, but I'm now wondering if we could do it in 2009.

If I'm understanding things correctly, I can book in June 2008 (11 months at my home resort) for May 2009, using the 66 banked 2007 points, 150 2008 points, and borrowing 98 2009 points, for the 314 needed.

Am I missing something, or could we actually take the trip a year earlier than I thought?

I'm not sure I can wait another two years to take the grandchildren for the first time :goodvibes

Welcome home! and no need to apologize -- it is a bit confusing at first.

It helps to think about your points like this:

Your 2007 points are valid for stays from 8/1/2007 - 7/31/2008
Your 2008 points are valid for stays from 8/1/2008 - 7/31/2009
Your 2009 points are valid for stays from 8/1/2009 - 7/31/2010
and so on

Since your 2007 points have been banked, they are valid for stays in the same time frame as your 2008 points: 8/1/2008 - 7/31/2009. If you want to combine the banked points, your 2008 points and borrow some of your 2009 points for a trip, then that trip must take place between 8/1/2008 and 7/31/2009, so you would need to make the trip in May 2009 not 2010.

If you wanted to stick with your original plans to go in May 2010, then you could not use the banked 2007 points for that trip because they expire on 7/31/2009. You could bank your 2008 points into your 2009 UY and combine those with your 2009 points and borrow from your 2010 UY for a trip in May 2010.

You can book your home resort in June 2008 for a trip in May 2009, (or June 2009 for a trip in May 2010). You would call Member Services 11 months prior to your check-out day.

Thanks Lisa :) I thought I might finally have it right, but just in case, I pasted your explanation into a Word document for my Disney folder :goodvibes

I had initially planned to use the 2007 banked points for a short solo trip in May 2009 and then bank/borrow as you explained for the 2010 family trip. I just got to thinking about whether I was really willing to wait that long to take the grandchildren. So, assuming the youngest one is fully potty trained and at least 40" tall, I think I'll go ahead and try for 2009. I'm really excited to discover that it's a possibility!
