Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road.....(or in some carbs!)

As a lot of you know I have been doing Atkins for years... I lost over 125 pounds but at that point I lost my way. I couldn't seem to get serious about it to really lose the rest of the weight I would like to lose. I think I was really burnt on the whole thing.
The good news was I did enough that I only gained about 20 pounds back.
I have preached on these boards many times, if something doesn't work, don't get depressed TRY SOMETHING ELSE!!!!
I kind of figured it was time to take my own advice.
I had been hearing a bit about the "South Beach Diet". I started to study it a bit and it really caught my interest. First of all, this diet is NOT anti-Atkins. In fact the more I look at it, it almost seems like an evolution of Atkins. The author acknowledges Dr. Atkins and says he respects and admires him.
It is, however, very different than Atkins. There is a 2 week induction period but it is not carb free. He preaches eating the "right" carbs.
One of the problems with Atkins was that DW had no luck on it so she was doing WW. I showed her this diet and she thought it looked pretty good. I was getting tired of cooking 2 different meals all the time.
So one day last week I took off for the grocery store and away we went. So far it's been good. I lost 6 pounds in less than a week. I was really suprised by that. It's not really a hard diet to follow.
The people that are doing veggy atkins or just feel it is unhealthy should really take a look at this.
Like they say on the South Beach Diet boards... see you on the beach!

Congrats on your success with SB, Alex! I can tell that you've been an inspiration to many on this board, and I am so happy for your success so far, and your success to come!

As a side note, I am not on Atkins or SB, but I am on a program that allows limited carbs, and it appears similar to SB in some respects. From what I've heard of SB, I think you'll like it since it offers a little more variety. I hope your DW is successful as you have been so far!

Alex, congratulations on your prior loss and on getting back on track!! It sounds like you looked around for a plan that would fit your needs instead of just giving up and I admire you for that!!

Onward and downward!!

Congratulations Alex on all your success on Atkins, but even more so on your ability to "not give up" and instead you are trying something new! What a wonderful attitude you have towards this! Way to go! :)

I'm glad you stopped by WISH again Alex --- I missed your posts! Stop back often and let us know how you are enjoying the 'Beach'. Just the NAME of this diet is enough to intrigue ME! I almost pickup up the book monday night at the bookstore. I'm still planning to check it out sometime down the road.
:D

Hey Alex!
Gald to have you back. You are always so level headed about a often very emotional issue. I missed you. I think the SB sounds great. It seems pretty easy to follow, and a great lifestyle change. Keep us posted.

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

I think it is great that you did some thinking and changed your plan, Alex. Finding the right plan is most of the battle. Sounds like you are already having wonderful success with this. Way to go!

Way to go! Glad you followed your own advise.

Melanie

Congratulations on your success, Alex. :D On both plans!! I think it's great that you found a new plan that is working for you. Here's to your and your DW's continued success! (She says, hoisting yet another glass of water ;) )

Congrats on the South Beach Diet success!!!! It takes a lot of courage to start something new, or change from something that was comfortable, and I applaud you! I just made the decision to switch courses this week myself, so I can really appreciate this thread. You have had terrific success so far, and know that it is ultimately YOU that has been the one responsible for your healthier ways and weight loss, the plan you choose is just the vehicle to get you to where you want to go. Congrats on making the commitment to you!!!!

Alex, I started the SBD a couple weeks ago myself (after getting nowhere for months trying to watch my calorie/fat content). I really like it too. I lost 5 lbs. in Phase 1 and have about 12 more to go. I have a feeling the rest of it is going to come off very slowly, but that's OK by me. I think this is a very healthy way of eating and I also feel like I can stick with it.

Good luck & I probably will "see you on the beach" (I'm a member at the SBD website)!

:D
