Another Reservation Point Question

I have a number of reservation points that need to be used in 2010. So we are planning on staying a week at the GF in May. I wondered if any DVC members out there have upgraded their non-DVC room at check-in when using points. I know that we have done this on DCL. This past cruise we booked a cat. 6 with points and then upgraded with cash for a cat. 3 at port. So if we pay for our stay at the GF in points for a garden view, can we upgrade to a better view or club level (if available of course) at check-in and pay cash for the difference? Anyone ever done this before?

We were not allowed to upgrade our CR room a few years ago on points when we arrived. We had cash nights in a different category and we had to move. When we asked if we could stay in the same room, the CM at the desk told us they were not allowed to upgrade points stays.

Thanks! That's pretty much what I thought. I wonder if a lot depends on who is at the desk when you check in. We are doing both cash and point nights too. Right now we are planning on just a garden view and know that we may have to move.
