Another quick question... is it better to buy resale at a different resort?

And take the chance of the 7 month window? For instance, buy resale at Vero Beach for $63 instead of Beach Club for $79? Is the extra points for the money worth the time frame window?

Thanks!

Take into consideration that dues at Vero are much higher, which will eat into your initial savings each year.

With all the Comcast talk, would you be OK if Vero is sold off and you can only stay there? If that's OK, then buy Vero. But if you are planning to stay mostly elsewhere, think hard about it. There's a reason Vero resales are so much cheaper. Plus if you would have to sell it, you'll be looking at a lower selling price.

You have to take into consideration the cost of maintenance fees over the years. Vero costs about $10 per point less upon purchase via resale, which is about $1500 on a contract of 150 points. Yet Vero's maintenance fees are consistently higher, by as much as $1 per point. Over the life of the contract, you will break even on those costs, plus you have given up the advantage of the 11 month booking window--which is very important at Christmas, NYE, Easter, 4th of July, etc.--and if you later decide to sell for some reason, your Vero contract will wait a long time for a buyer. Is the trade-off worth it? Only you can answer that question.

The best advice you will receive is to buy where you want to stay. A lot could happen in the next 40-50 years which would further restrict your abilities to book at a non-home resort.

Specific comments related to your question:

- BCV resales can be found for a LOT less than $79 per point.
- Vero beach has the highest annual dues of all the resorts. If that's not where you primarily want to stay, chances are you're going to make up that difference in purchase price fairly quickly.

Thanks for the quick replies! I really would like to stay either at Boardwalk, Beach Club or Wilderness Villas, but haven't seen Saratoga Springs yet. I will definitely purchase at one of those now!

Thank you for clearing that up and helping me out.

Karen

I'd buy where you want to stay. And I WOULD NOT BUY VB with the intention of using the points mostly at WDW. The extra dues and aggravation of the 7 month window are not worth it. The best and cheapest alternative for you will likely be BWV. It is older and larger, that means more resales and at a lower price since those selling would have bought at a cheaper price. It also has the Standard view option, a chance to get by with less points.
