another passport question

I have just realized that our passports expire on March 28, I thought April 28. Our trip dates are March 21-31. Does anyone know if there will be a problem returning? We heard that snowbirds will be able to return without any problems, even without a passport. We have all other required documentations. Picture ID, birth certificates, etc.

If you're flying AC or other CDN airline, I think I would be breathing a little easier...a US based airline, you're going to be pulled aside for extra screening, maybe...

You're going to be okay, IMO.

Canada's requirements for re-entry have not changed. Only entering the US has - which you need a passport for.

From Homeland Security:
ll citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport when entering the United States at any airport beginning January 23, 2007.

No, as long as the passport is valid the day you return to Canada.

the passport requirement is "supposed" to be only for ENTRY into the US. You will already be there. You have all the other documentation to get you back into Canada, so it really shouldn't be an issue ... although someone did post that they had a problem at MCO earlier this month. I would get the number for the Canadian consolate to have with you, in case you run into a problem. It's the US that demands the passport ... why should they really care about your ID to get you OUT of the US. I mean, you're LEAVING their country ... isn't that what they ultimately want???

Good luck. And some will say that you shouldn't travel with a passport that is within 6 months of expiry, but that means that they're not really good for the full 5 years. I totally disagree with having to buy new passports earlier than expiry, but then again, we're dealing with governments here so my personal opinion really doesn't matter.

My son's passport expires March 15. We were planning to travel to Disneyland from March 3-8. I have been told by several local travel agencies that your passport could be denied if it expires within six months of travelling. There is also a blurb about it somewhere on the Passport Canada website. At Co-Op you actually have to sign a waiver saying you are aware of this before they will sell you the package. I'm not sure if it would happen, but we decided not to risk it and will reschedule our trip once we get his new passport. I also totally disagree with this but what can you do. What's the point of an expiry date if it is not valid until that time??

It was me who had trouble returning on January 25th. They were adamant that I couldn't fly without a passport, but eventually let me after I kept telling them that their own website and customer service dept. said it was ok.

I have e-mailed the customer service dept. to find out what their exact policy is but I have not heard back yet. I told them that it is very confusing when you get conflicting messages.

Unless you get written confirmation that you can return I would not go through what I did. It was not fun. I will let you know if I hear back from the airline, which is American by the way.

The date it expires is the date it expires, not 6 months prior. Most places want you to renew your passport at that time to avoid problems at the passport office.

My husband travels to the US for work on a weekly basis. His passport expires at the end of March. Trust me, I'd be happy if they hadn't of let him through the past six months

So my husband went to line up at the passport office at 6am this morning. 12th one in. The customs agent confirmed what you said and stated that as long as we are back before my son's May 15th expiry date they cannot deny us entry or re-entry. Well, that's what we thought but were getting conflicting answers from travel agencies, other people etc. He did say it may be a problem if you were coming from other countries like the middle east but not an issue with Canada. So, we will book our trip like planned for March 3.

Now, I am wondering if anyone has stayed at the Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel and which would they prefer with a 4 and 6 year old? We have stayed at the Mariott Residence Inn a couple of years ago. It was great and we got a good deal on it, but we thought we would try one of the resort hotels this time. Any comments?

We're going to DL at the same time We're not staying on-site because my husband gets free stays at the Hyatt due to all his travelling. From my research though, I would suggest the DLH. It's slightly closer to the maingates, and the theming is way better. If it wasn't for the fact that we like to have seperate rooms for our DDs to sleep in, I would have definitely booked the DLH based on the Peter Pan pool. My Tink-obsessed DD7 would have been in heaven. Check out the discussions on the DL board for more info.

There really aren't any perks to staying onsite at DLR -- it's not like WDW. Plus, you may find that the rooms are completely booked up by now. If you really want to stay Disney, you can still get rooms through http://www.getawaytoday.com/ or through other brokers like expedia.

Thanks for all the info! I think we will try the DLH. A couple of days ago we could still get a room. The pool for the kids is the selling point for me - especially since we probably will be at the hotel in the afternoons. Hopefully it isn't too cold to swim. Have a great trip!

As Canadians, you'll probably enjoy the pools to yourselves I remember being in WDW in November one year. It was short-wearing weather. Even so, it was quite obvious that the only people at Blizzard Beach were Canucks and Brits

I think as long as you have warm cover-ups, the pools should be doable. They wouldn't keep them open all year long otherwise.
