Another option if dvc rooms have little to no availability for a while...

I see there is a ton of availability at all the resorts in April. My trip isn't until May and I would not be surprised if it has to be canceled.

I had to buy 20 one time use points from member services to complete my May booking -we had just purchased a 25 pt contract that gave us 2019/20 points also. So i used, 25 from May 2019, 25 May 2020, and150 May 2019 plus the 20 one time use points.

I hope that if I do get canceled that I can use the 2019 points for September and December and bank the rest. The CC reservation is 220 total points. I am still a very new member and I am not schooled on the banking-i have borrowed from 2021 to book the December booking though.

There is no May UY so it’s a little hard to help. Can you clairfy what your UY is?

my UY is August

So, with an Aug UY, your May 2020 trip is in your 2019 UY.

Your banking window is March 31st. So, if you cancel now, all those 2019 UY points...since none are banked 2018 UY points...would still be eligible to be banked,

Your 2020 UY points would be borrowed points. Right now, unless the change to borrowed rules are extended to include May trips, those would be stuck in 2019 UY and expire July 31st. Of course, if they continue to allow borrowed points to be put back for May trips, those would be eligible.

My understanding is that members have had success being reimbursed the cost for OTU points purchased for trips in March and early April. Not sure about if that would happen for May.

So, it does put you into a situation.like myself with an Aug UY and a May trip...if you should cancel and cut your losses, or keep the trip and risk no changes in the banking rules.

I am choosing to risk it myself. But, I can also travel in July, have a trip in June that I could change room size to use up the points.

It really comes down to your personal choice at this point

There are definitely DVC members with an entitlement mentality.

"You can't put me in Pago Pago, I'm a DVC member!"
"The view for this unit at BRV/BCV is terrible and I am going to have a tantrum until you move me tomorrow and refuse to pay a cleaning fee for turnover because you can't give me this bad view!" (Note that BCV and BRV don't have bookable views.)

Even the prepaid lodging that is the heart of the DVC deed has a lot of limitations/exclusions and lack of guarantee when one reads the whole thing.
:o I actually liked Pago Pago, it was right next to the parking lot...wasn't even aware it is undesirable. Oh to be there right now :guilty:
