I have already booked ME. Can I retrieve my own bags and check them onto the M.E. bus in order to make sure that they are with us or do you have to let them retrieve your luggage in order to use M.E.?

You may retrieve your own bags if you wish, but at 8:30 in the morning, all you are probably going to be able to do is lug them yourselves just to have Bell Services store them as your room most likely won't be ready anyway.

Just bring a small carryon with essentials for the first few hours and you are all set.

Why not let ME worry about your bags, check in to your resort, and go off and enjoy your day

I've done both ways. Most times I let them take our luggage and we've never had a problem especially arriving early since you probably won't get your room until later anyway. I did pick up my luggage once as I was only staying one night and heading to DCL the next morning. I didn't want to take a chance. I had to go to the luggage pickup which turned out not to be in the same terminal as ME. My luggage pickup was the last area. I then rolled my suitcase back to an elevator. Walked over to the other terminal, took the elevator down to get ME, rolled my suitcase out to the bus, rolled it into check-in, then rolled it to my room. All in all a bit crazy and if I had to do it again, I would let ME do it!!!!

You certainly can, but I sure would not want to. I mean if you trust the airline with your luggage from your home airport to MCO, why wouldn't you trust DME to get your bags from MCO to your resort? (ALL uses of the word 'you' are the collective you, not specifically to the OP. ;) ).

We've used DME several times, and it's always gone off without a hitch. I do pack one carryon back with enough 'stuff' to get us through our first 24-36 hours.

As is so often stated here....no matter where you are flying to, you should always have a carryon bag packed with essential items for a day. The airlines are more likely to misdirect your bags than DME is to lose them. With the new TSA specifications as far as liquids/gels in place, there seem to be many more options for travel sizes of most toiletries. So...pack what you will need...sunscreen, toothbrush/paste, swim suit, shorts/tee shirt, deod, travel documents, reservation papers, park passes....you'll be good to go to a park or to the resort pool, even if your room isn't ready or your bags haven't arrived yet.

Not only is it a time saver to allow DME to transport your bags, it's a money saver. If you grab your own bags from the baggage carousel, you should be tipping the bus driver since he/she stows them and then takes them out. Then, when you get to the resort, you'll be tipping the Bell Services people to deliver the bags.
