OK - it's now Saturday, January 16th. DH awakens at CRACK OF DAWN and rousts DD out of bed to see the animals. Dear Stepdaughter groans, rolls over and goes back to sleep - sensible girl that she is. DD takes a look out the window and screams MAMA-RAFFS! RAFFS MAMA! This translates to giraffe. We all finally get up and down to Boma for breakfast. I tell DSD to try the house juice. She does and is hooked. We enjoy Boma's buffet and DD is happy because they have pork loin and bacon. She happily chows down on both and some grapes.
After breakfast the fun begins. My oldest friend ("BF") lives in Ft. Myers and has not met our DD yet. So she and her 2nd husband ("BFH") decide to come up to WDW and meet us. My DH is less than thrilled. He can only take BF in small quantities and BFH not at all. Unfortunately BF adapts the views, opinions and interests of whatever male she is currently attached to. BFH is opposed to ecologists, mannatees and boating regulations. He once told my DH and I that it would be cheaper to import manatees from South America than to preserve the ones currently living in Florida. But I call her and we arrange to meet at EPCOT, under the Golf Ball in an hour. It is convenient for them because they are staying the the Yacht Club.
We bundle up (did I mention that it was cold) and head off for EPCOT. On our way in the character bus has stopped at the front gate and DD gets to met Minnie. She is totally thrilled and gives Minnie a big hug and kiss. I cry. Then on to our rendevous.
The first person we see is BFH. BF is in the rest room. BFH really likes DD and so does BF when she emerges. BF is wearing a parka and sweater and down vest and is still clearly cold. We make the introductions and start walking towards Mission Space. BFH shows DD the water fountain in the court behind the Golf Ball and DD is entranced. He then buys her a Mickey cap. DH, DSD and I go on MS, leaving DD with BF.
MS-we all loved it. If you follow the directions and watch the screen it's fine. DSD wishes that she could get her mother on the ride and watch her reaction on a monitor.
We return to claim DD and BFH tells me that she is walking with BF. They appear and we stroll on towards lunch at Germany, stopping for ride Rio del Tiempo and Maelstrom with DD, who thinks both are great fun. We also have fun with DD at the Viking ship play area (as an aside, DH and I are re-enactors with a group that has a Viking long ship, the Fyrdrakker, a smaller ship, the Gyrfalcon, and a new long ship about to be delivered; DD has dressed as Viking child at events and napped in the Gyrfalcon any number of times). We got a cute picture of her examining the lapstrake siding.
It was in Germany that things got a bit dicey. BF went off on the extremely nice CM because he had brought her a glass of water with a slice of lemon in it. We were embarassed. Then she and BFH start in on how ecologists are ruining things and boating restrictions for mannatees are really stupid ideas. My DSD is an ecologist who works for a government-contracted company on an army base in Maryland. She has a marine sciences degree and is working on a Masters in Ecology. She also plays a mean game of field hockey. But she kept her composure until after we had left. After lunch, which was quite good, DD through a temper tantrum as only a tired 2 year old can. So we said good by to BF and BFH and started back to the hotel. But, DH wanted to go into the Chinese pavillion. I had the fun job of making sure that DD didn't get into anything. But the CMs there were very happy to see her (DD is adopted from China) and treated her with great affection. Finally, she fell asleep in her stroller, so we decided to take advantage of it and continued on around World Showcase, having fun in Japan and Morocco and England. DSD was amazed at the place and kept saying that she wanted to come back.
We got back to AKL around 4:30 and rested until dinner at Boma. DSD loved the food. Her mother is a rotten cook and DSD grew up eating a lot of fast food. We have broadened her food horizons considerably and now she even likes beer. At Boma, we introduced her to Victoria Falls Mists.
After dinner we went to the gift shop to get some long sleeved shirts for the next day and than to Mara for our cups. DSD loved the gift shop and went in several times just to look around.
We went back up to the room and I did my nightly call to Mousekeeping for more towels. Then, after her bath, we had a good smile watching DD very carefully tuck her big sister into bed.
