Another "IF YOU HAD THE POWER" Poll - This one's all about "the rules"

If you had the power to enforce one and only one of the following, which would it be?

  • No smoking in the non smoking DVC units (incl balconies) by anyone ever (incl housekeeping & mtce).

  • DVC pools are for resort guests and DVC-approved pool hoppers only.

  • DVC member perks are for members and their guests staying with them only - not renters.

  • Transferred points will always retain their original use year & home resort status. (Fix computer gl

  • Maximum occupancy of DVC units are as stated in the POS (St= 4+1, 1B=4+1, 2B=8+1 & 3B=12+1).

  • DVC resorts will not provide self parking for those going to a theme park.

Results are only viewable after voting.

...(snip).....I also didn't see the rule to make sure everyone showers before entering the pool listed which has come up many times. Any staunch rule abiders/advocaters ever broken that rule? ::yes::

I wanted to make this poll only about DVC. Isn't the "shower before entering" a general rule for all pools? FWIW, I wasn't aware that this was an issue - must have missed the thread(s) that discussed it. :teeth:

I assume you really mean resort pools - not DVC pools. We haven't had crowded pool problems, but pool crashers would bug me if we did. However, DVC pool hopping would bug me if we had crowded pools and no blackout window....

At the time I posted the poll, I was thinking only about the pools that DVC could possibly "control". Didn't think DVC would have much clout getting the other resorts to police their pools so that DVC members could continue to pool hop. No benefit to the resort hotels - given a choice, they'd probably vote to discontinue pool hopping to their pools.

Best wishes -

Does DVC "control" any pools? I thought all the pools were resort pools, with the resort locating a quiet pool near the DVC units - but I didn't realize those pools were managed as separate entities.

Would like a non smoking room to not be smoked in anytime we are at a hotel anywhere, other than that none of these seem like a big deal to us.

Nice poll, thanks for posting. The results are certainly telling.::yes::
I would think smoking in a non smoking unit would be the most important by far. That does not lessen the importance of any of the others nor the reasonableness of them. But still, this is not an issue up for vote, it is not changeable without an actual vote of the membership itself, the BOD cannot change this one without a vote of the members themselves.
Scary to see how some only see black and white, on or off, and fail to acknowledge that Disney has the right to determine what is in the best interest of thier guests, which are steadfast for safety etc., and which are put in place for contractual reasons should the need arise to fall back on a position because plans did not work as expected.
The DVC resorts are not currently owned by Disney, they are owned by the members (SSR resort possibly the exception currently). Therefore it's the members who should have the say. If one feels strongly about the rules either being enforced or changed, they should contact DVC MS AND the voting authority as well as DVC management. Interesting how some see rules as guidelines, seems like a formula for anarchy.

If they were all 'near' equally important or reasonable I would think that would show up in the poll results. Obviously, it does not, especially with some under 5%.

My understaning is that DVC is governed by a Board who hires and guides a management team to operationalize thier direction. I don't see it as a democracy, or subject to the special interest and desires of a few select vocal voices who appear to be in the minority. I don't condone the squeeky wheel management approach.

Great poll.

As noted, some rules are more important to the people than others and I'd certainly put the smoking issue up there. That does not make that rules more important to enforce, the two are far different. I'm frankly surprised some of the other choices are getting as many votes as they are. DVC cannot change any rules in a way that affects members rights without putting it to a vote of the members, read the POS.

no question, it's the smoking. Something like that can ruin another member's vacation. The other choices not so much. I'm not saying that they don't have merit and shouldn't be followed, they just are not as critical to the health and well being of all members as the smoking.

I would have voted for #1 if it didn't include the balcony. I definitely do not want to check-in to a non-smoking room and find it had been smoked in. But I don't really care if someone smokes on their balcony. I guess if there were 20 people smoking cigars on the balcony right under mine I might mind. But since I have never encountered this I don't see it as a major problem. But I have turned in people for crashing pools before. It really burns me. Not too long ago at OKW a couple was bragging about how they live in the Orlando area and "pool hop" to all the resorts at WDW. I mentioned it to a CM and they were escorted off the property. I felt like a snitch, but if they hadn't been bragging about it I probably wouldn't have done anything.

If I had THE POWER, I wouldn't need any poll. I'd enforce all the rules, punishable by public flogging.

Those exceeding the occupancy limits would surrender their youngest child to 24-hour care by Fairy Godmothers at their own expense.

Smoking in a nonsmoking room would be punished by keelhauling at the Empress Lilly.

Smoking in a non-smoking room would be it for me. Although smoking on the balcony isn't a big issue for me. It is always interesting to see which of the "rules" gets people the most fired up.
