There were 11 in our group (me,DH,DS,DD, Sister's family-her, DH, DD, DS, our mother, and 2 nieces). My mom and nieces stayed at the Westin via Priceline. Everybody else stayed in a 2BR - 2212, marshview. Our building was one building over , towards the pool from last year. A great location.

Sun 6/8- arrived around 1:00 and the room was ready. Kids got lemonade at the lodge at checkin. Rented bikes for the week. Paid $105 for 3 adult bikes, one trailer, 3 kids bikes, and 3 helmets. Went to check in Mom at the Westin. Great ocean view room with a balcony. Kids played on the beach and swam in the pool.Got groceries at the Piggly Wiggly. Explored several grocery stores this time. Liked Bi Lo the best. Ordered pizza from Guissepe's (sp?). I took the younger kids to the campfire at 8:00.
Huge crowd. The girls had a great time.Went and ate pizza and then returned for s'mores without the crowd.

Mon. 6/9
Did the Beach Excursion 8:00-10:00. It was very interesting to learn about the area from Brian the naturalist. The kids found a huge horseshoe crab and many other sea creatures. Many of our group went to the beach for the afternoon. Grilled steaks for dinner. Had ice cream at Marley's (yum, yum).

Tues 6/10
Road bikes over to HH Diner to get some pastries. Everyone thought they looked better than they tasted. Kids made fish shirts and swam in the afternoon. Ate lunch at Salty Dog. It was HOT ! The misting fans they have helped. Went to the All American BBQ put on by the resort (19.95 for adults, 8.95 for kids). After dinner they had crafts for a small fee and a pie eating contest and watermelon seed spitting contest. Then, they moved things to the pool. The slide was open later, there was music and the girls loved dancing. The evening closed with fireworks over the marsh area. A full day!!

Wed 6/11
Everybody came over and we cooked breakfast on the grill. Then most of the group went on a guided kyak trip. We didn't do it through Disney. We went from a place near the Old Oyster factory (25.00 per adult,10.00 per child). It lasted 2 hours. We saw a mother and baby dolphin at very close range. Again, it was HOT! Some got lunch from the deli over Shelter Cove. We didn't realize until later DVC members get a 15% discount there. Went to the beach house for pool games. Went to Aunt Chilada's for dinner. Very busy. Had to split up tables. Our part of the group ended up leaving after waiting and waiting. Went to Fuddrucker's instead. Quick, cheap meal. Got some delicious chocolate chocolate chip cookies there. Went over to Shelter Cover to see Shannon Tanner perform. My niece got to sing with him.

Thurs 6/12
Took the kids to the Westin beach. Went to the outlet malls. Ate lunch at Sticky Fingers (food was so-so). Kids swam. Kids went to Kids Night Out- pizza, Finding Nemo movie. The adults had planned to go to the Longview Cooking Club. When we arrived at the beach house nobody was there. A call to the front desk and we learned it had been cancelled. We went to Sea Pines in search of dessert.

Fri 6/13
Went to the beach early for the last time. Ate lunch at DVC. Packed up and headed home around 2:00

Met Karen B's husband and then Karen B in the parking area. I always forget my license plate gives me away (BENHAN 1). Nice to meet you guys!!

Sorry for this being so long! :Pinkbounc

That was a great report...thanks for posting it. I definitely think we will try that Salty Dog Cafe for lunch sometime....

When you go to the Salty Dog, look for the yellow foot prints on the deck. They have a web cam. We always call the people back home and tell them to pull up the website (saltydog.com) and see us waving at them. This year all of our family wasn't at home to see us. So, my husband called a co-worker and had a conversation while they watched him on the web cam. They have a great gift shop. My kids love their t-shirts. The seafood there was very good.

Thanks for sharing the highlights of your trip. Looking forward to ours next month. Will have to try the web cam at Salty Dog -- one of our favorite dining places.:D

Howdy,

That is too funny! We checked in the same day as you, only an hour later. We were a party of 12 in a GV with a marsh view, 1822.

We saw a dark haired guy cooking on the grill one morning in I think a red shirt. You by any chance?

We had a great week too. We can't wait to book the same week for next year.

Called ahead to Aunt Chiladas and they were able to seat all of us at 6pm with no problem. We thought Sticky Fingers was awesome. We loved Guisseppis but will order to go next time, way too small in there.

We kept pulling in behind someone with a DVC liscense plate. I told DH it has to be someone from these boards.

Don't hesitate to book a HH vacation. You will not be disappointed.

Mary-
That was my BIL grilling. Did you see when they (my mom was helping) caught the grill on fire and it was burning like the olympic torch. It was also there red van with the DVC 2001 license plates.
We would have enjoyed Sticky Fingers more if half way through our meal my 10 year old niece noticed something in her glass. Turned out to be a used lemon. The waitress said the glass problably went through the diswasher and it didn't come out. Blech!
Had a great week! Glad to hear you did too!

Hello,

What a small world. We missed the grilling excitement, but came real close to asking if we could join in if we donated our box of Krispy Kremes. The little boy out with the grill man was adorable.

Thank goodness that lemon incident didn't happen to my niece. She would not have eaten at any restaurant the rest of the trip.

It was a great week and it was awful back here in Ohio while we were gone and probably wasn't much better by you.

We added 200 HH points thru resale just so we could book the GV in summer. No regrets here. It was wonderful.

Mary

Did your mom like the Westin? How were the rooms?
We are staying there on my Starwood points and just wondering if it is an okay resort. Never been to Hilton Head before. Would love to stay with Disney but this was free with points.LOL
Thanks :)

The Westin was very nice. Most of the rooms appear to face the ocean and have a balcony. There were kids activities scheduled daily. A nice pool. Several restaurants. Shuttles service to some of the malls.

We are actually only going to be there for two days to relax on the way home from WDW. ;)
