I really want my own dog. The one we have now was supposed to be mine, but likes my parents better. I want a small dog, I would even pay for everything.
But my parents still say no. So should I just wait a couple years for them to gain my trust, give up and wait till I move out or what?

Well, you should first show you can be responsible for the dog you have. Take really good care of it, show your parents that if you get another dog that they won't be stuck caring for it.

Also, what kind of dog are you getting? A shelter dog?

I'm just wondering, do you find your parents taking it out to go poop or for walks more than you do? Do you find they bath the dog more? Play with it more? Feed it more?

They may be simply paying more attention to your dog than you are.
