We are planning a trip in June 2011 with some friends. We will have a studio for 7 nights and then they will join us for the last 5 days in their own studio. I know that every one on the reservation must have the dining plan if we choose to do it. Could we have it for 7 days and them only for the 5 days they will be with us or would we have to pay for 2 days for them even though they will not be there? TIA

The dining plan goes by nights, not by days. You will have to purchase the plan for everyone listed on the reservation for the full 7 nights. However, anyone in the party can use the credits, so if you plan right you can use the extra ones for extra meals or 2 credit TS meals before they arrive. Might be tricky if you have both adults and children because you may have more adult credits to use than child credits if the 2 arriving late are both adults. But you could always pay OOP for some child meals.

If they will have their own Studio (and are not staying with you all in one Studio) -then the DP may be purchased for each reservation. That way you would have the dining plan for the 7 nights of your reservation and they would have it for their 5 night stay. In this case, each reservation is treated separately for the DP.

If you are all staying in one Studio, then everyone will need the DP for all 7 nights.

Thanks for the replies. They will have their own studio. We are hoping to split our 7 day stay and spend the 1st 2 nights at our home resort (VWL) and then spend our 5 nights with them at BCV. If I am correct, we can skip the dining plan for the 1st 2 nights and then do dining for the final 5 nights because these are different reservations, right? Only people here can understand why I am obsessing over a trip that is 14 months away. This will be our first trip since buying a resale (signed closing papers yesterday) so we are more than a little excited.:goodvibes Thanks again.

Yes, it sounds as though there will be 3 different unlinked reservations involved. You can get the DP for any or all. With a split stay you will not need to get the DP for the 2 nights at VWL and then get the DP for the two BCV studios.

Enjoy! :)

Absolutely did not catch that they are staying in a different room on a separate reservation - as noted if that is the case they can get their own dining plan.

You could get the DDP for one room or the other or for both. You could even get different Plans for each room if you wanted.

BUT - with DVC's plan to start to link member vacations even if they are at different locations, etc, you may be required to buy the dining plan for all guests for the entire stay.

Given they'll have separate rooms with different names on the rooms there should be no variation of any changes that would require that everyone on both rooms get the DDP.
