That is how our school system handles these snow days. For every snow day, one day is added in June (up to but not past June 30). Our last day was supposed to be June 9. Now we are at June 11. I think the lastest we ever went was maybe the 25th. The kids get so excited when they have a snow day, but I remind them....would you rather go to school in the winter OR summer?

What do your schools do? How late have your kids ever gone?

We do not have snow days built into our schedule, either, and have to make up every one we take.

They do set aside some in service days for snow-day make-up, though, to avoid having to go later in June. Last year we had to make up a day on the first day of April vacation.

Since we hardly ever have snow days, we don't have snow days built into our calander. I think we've only had 3-5 snow days in the last 10 years.

The school year has to end by June 30. I believe the last day of school this year is June 28 or 29.

It's funny because we do have snow days built into our schedule and we rarely get the stuff. We've had one bad freeze but that day is already made up.

That's how it's always been done in the NorthEast..... with our snow day today, that brings our last day of school to June 26 :( *IF* they call off school tomorrow, the last day will be June 29th (Monday) That is the week of the 4th of July!!! Good gosh!!! I love having my girls home, but I'd much rather have them home when the weather is nice!!!

We have 2 snow days built into our schedule, after that they change a couple of 1/2 days to full days, then they start adding to the end of the school year. Normally the 2 snow days and the couple of 1/2 days cover our snow days for the year.

Our school system adds on a few minutes onto every day so they can still get the minimum number of hours of instruction. I think they added on 8 minutes per day last year. Since they don't start school until September they don't get out until mid-June and an extra day would be torture for everyone!

We do not have snow days built into our school calendar but they will not change the last day of school. For some reason, I want to say they can't.....but I can't say what that reason would be. Maybe I'm lying :rotfl: We have had 3 snow days and a flood day....so far. I think we've delayed opening 3 times. The whole days off will be made up either on scheduled teacher work days, Saturdays, or they might take days away from Spring break. We were soposed to be off this Monday but they are having class.

Our school usually tacks on extra days in the beginning, and takes them away if we don't use them, and the kids get out earlier. I heard that although the last day of school is scheduled for June 23rd, we'd get out on the 17th if we had no snow days (but that has never happened).

They add snow days to the end of the year as well. Last year they got out June 26th.27th (around there). This year they are set to get out a few days earlier and that was without a full spring break (just Friday/Monday)

No clue what they are going to do for this week. The district goes over the required 180 days for "additional instruction per district discretion" = we usually have 182-184 days so they "could" take away the additionals so we are down to the minimum 180.

We plan in snow days, and if we dont use them we get an extra long memorial day weekend or add them to spring break, one year we used an unused snow day for my moms funeral.

Nope we can't go past June 10th per state law. Schools cannot open earlier than August 25th either, except for those counties affected on a regular basis by weather. That's why it's so hard for us to make up days.

In my county, by the time the bad weather hit, there were only three teacher workdays left in the whole year before June 10th (there are two after that date). One of those is on Good Friday. We lost the other two and have now lost two days of Spring break.

Our district adds time every day - we have 13 days built in. If the district doesn't use the allowed days, they're "lost" - stinks for teachers, contracted to "work" a certain number of days per year - they work the extra days with no additional pay - also the students, who are mandated to attend a certain number of days each year just go extra days if they're not all used.

We notice, when days are left in March or so, schools may close due to "illness"... when maybe if the illnesses had been happening in Nov/Dec, schools would have remained open.

The days usually work out evenly.

We have 5 snow days built into our schedule. If we use more than 5 we do not add to the end of the year, instead we take away some vacation days. If we use less than 5, they add vacation days.

We have 5 built into the calendar. We have had 7 this year so we've lost a teacher inservice day next week and one day of spring break. We are scheduled to get out on May 27, which is later than last year when they got out May 22. They said if we have anymore, we'll lose one more spring break day and after that they will tack it onto the end of the year.

We have 18 days built into our calendar...yes, that is right, 18! We are on our 7th snow day today so I'm glad that we built those days into the calendar. :thumbsup2 We are in the middle of a blizzard at the moment and they are calling for snow again on Monday. At this rate, I don't think we'll get back to school until March.

Of course, the years that we get no snow, we are all complaining about the 'extra' time we put into school!

Same for us. I am hoping that there isn't a snow day tomorrow, the girls do, but I know at the end of the school year, they will wish they hadn't.

Where I live, DD11's school system didn't even put in for inclement weather days this year. So, they have to make up 2 snow days. What is funny is went on the website and they had the proposed calendar for next year, it had a disclaimer that they have to have 2 snow days built in. I guess they forgot about them this year.

This morning, it was snowing. Our kids went to school. We only have a a half inch, but I remember on Inauguration day, it didn't even snow as predicted, not even rain and they called school off for snow.

Very interesting to see how different places handle snow days (i.e.: adding minutes to days, taking away schedule time off.)
I sort of wish they would plan for them and if we don't use them, let the kids out early. Kind of a nice surprise at the end of the school year.

It is a real shame when they call a snow day and then we don't actually get much snow or none at all. That's what happened today. They called last night to cancel but as of right now it looks like it was a waste. Parts of Connecticut are getting hit, but not us.

We have no days built into our calendar and so will make them up at the end of the year. Right now our last day of school is June 23rd. Today is our first snow day. Hopefully, we won't have any more than 2, total. If so, I end up losing my one week June vacation, as I teach year-round. That would totally suck.
