Another corral placement/proof of time question!

Hi everyone! I am still coming off a runner's high from the Princess 1/2 and have decided to register for my second Goofy (I did it in 2010 and said never again but can't resist the 15th anniversary 1/2 marathon medal...I also figure that if my body can still pull off a Goofy, I really have no excuse not to!)

My question is this...I have been running nicely this year and have set a number of new PR's and I am wondering if they will make any difference with my corral placement. I ran the A1A half in 2:18:04 this year and ran a 10K in January in 58:18 (I guess my body likes 8's). Now, my 10K time predicts a faster 1/2 but it was much warmer the day of the 1/2 and the water stops were super crowded (I am still pleased with my time, don't get me wrong!). I am wondering if submitting the 10k will put me in a higher corral or if I am better off submitting the 1/2 time to hopefully be placed higher for the full? I am kind of hoping (depending on weather) to set a PR for the full (my previous is pathetic...5:28 and change but it was the NYC marathon...I am really hoping for just under 5 hours).

Whew...that is quite a long story for a simple question...
I remember for my previous Goofy, I submitted a 2:22 half from the first Princess and was in corral D for the 1/2 and G for the full, I think.
Thanks for your help!
Jill

Goofy entry is all about the Marathon time on the form. If the A1A is in the date range, use it (actually your Disney 2:22 will work well, also and be easier on the form). Put a 4:45 or 4:50 for your expected time. You should be B ish on the half and B or C on the full.... both well within range of your running capabilities. In the event you dump another say 10-12 minutes off of your half between now and October, write Disney and ask them to adjust your times.

I'll just tack on my question if it's ok - save boardspace...

I seriously doubt I'll be under 5 hours - my Disney Half was 2:47:38 (we'll see what I do tomorrow). But I know I won't be as long as 7. Am I better off putting a time closer to what I'm thinking based on calculators and giving proof for that? Or will I still be in the last corral since I won't be under 5? (Did that make sense?)

This year's Goofy was my second half marathon and first full marathon. I was coral B for the Half and C for the Full. My time for entering was a 9:36mm pace from the W&D second part relay, 8.3 miles.

No, but reading in between the lines....

if you put a your marathon time at 5:01 and offer no proof you will be in an 5-5:15 corral, more than likely in the D/E range. Note, a 2:47 half is really a 5:45 full. But because no proof is required for the 5:01 time it in and you ned to take no other action.

For others take the not so subtle hint.

2:20-5:00 estimated times require a proof and are corralled in that order if a proof is submitted.
5:01 - 7:00 estimated times are placed in the following corrals in order. No proof required.
NA, blank or failing to provide proof on a time of <5 hours are in the last corrals.

Gotcha. Thanks! I know what a 2:47 half is, that's why I didn't try to slip be in the under 5 category. I know that ain't happening. I just wasn't sure how they handled the corrals for those of us not under the 5 hour mark. Good to know that we aren't all lumped together - 2 hours is a huge range of paces! (I think I put 5:30 or something considering I'll have a lot more training including hillwork and things I didn't have before.)

Thanks Coach!

Only reason I did the math is that I had to figure it out. Somedays my mind just does not do the simple stuff

If the WDW 1/2 is my first 1/2 marathon, how do I know what time to put down as my expected fininsh time?

How fast do you currently run/walk a mile or 3? Take that ond plug into mcmillian running calculator and you will have an idea.

Absent that, leaving a blank will put you near the back. Putting a 2:46 or 3:00 will give you some buffer from the back

Thanks Coach Charles - right now I'm at about a 14 minute mile, but hoping to improve as the summer moves on.

This year's Goofy was my second half marathon and first full marathon. I was coral B for the Half and C for the Full. My time for entering was a 9:36mm pace from the W&D second part relay, 8.3 miles.

Are there other things they take into account for corral placement? My time was 9:05mm pace for a half marathon and I was in corral B for the half and corral D for the full.

Sorry for another newbie question - if my DD runs a 10k this summer and wants to submit her time from that event, exactly what is that we need to submit - do I need to look for a 10k with electronic timing or what does she need from the 10k to submit her time? Will any 10k run do, or am I looking for something specific?

It needs to be a 10k with certified verifiable results.

I think Disney will take results from any race that posts results on the internet, which in my experience is most races. I run with a really small striders group in Delaware, and even they post spreadsheets with results online.

It all depends on the time you put on the entry. You could have a proof that suggests a 4 hour marathon, but if you estimate 5 hours you will be placed in the estimated time slot. Goofy entries are based on you expected marathon times so you must have estimated a time that placed you in D.. Say something around 5-5:20... Just my hunch. Your half placement reflects you half times.

*** pp indicated it just needs to be an event that publishes times on the web. She would indicate what race, the date and fi knish time on the proof slot. If updating, I would summarize and include a scan with my email.

curious, about how many corrals are there in the dis marathon? how many in each one? If the first runners start at 6:00am, what time would the last people of the race cross the starting line? And the 16min/mile pace starts with the last people and their starting time, right?

also, curious, running a 1/2 in july to help prepare for the marathon in jan. What time should/could I set as my goal to qualify before the below 5 hour mark on the dis marathon?

In 2011 there were eight corrals, each being it's own wave. Each wave had 2000-2500 runners. Note that the first wave starts at 5:30, not 6 like it did a couple years back.... Each wave starts about four minutes apart, so the last wave starts just after 6. So one would assume the very last runners cross the start are und 6:07. The time for the 16 minute sweep clock starts at the time of the last person crossing the start.

If you finish in a 2:15 - 2:20 range you should be good with that demonstrating a 5 hour marathon.

I seriously wasn't thinking when I estimated my time for the full. I doubled what I'm running now at a 1/2 distance (I'm running around a 2:10-2:15 half in training, so I submitted a 4:30 full.) The time I submitted as proof though is for a 2:20 1/2 I ran in the fall. I'm hoping I can officially take some time off my 1/2 in one of the races I'm running this spring. If I email a change for my proof of time to Disney, do I need to change my estimated finish too, or will they see I totally low balled my estimated time and place me based on my the race time I provided?
