A big thank you to everyone for all the great info on the cabins; lists, suggestions etc. :flower3:

Can we use citronella candles on the deck or are candles a big no-no for the cabins? The website says smoking is permitted on the deck, so maybe candles are okay. :confused3

This is our first trip to FW and we are very excited!:yay:

That is a good question.

I have seen lots of folks with citronella and other candles in use at the cabins and campsites.

The official rule, as posted in the Fort Wilderness Gazette is as follows:

Fires: Limit charcoal fires to the charcoal grills. Open fires are not permitted anywhere in Fort Wilderness. Torches and other burning devices are not permitted.

If read literally, this rule would seem to prohibit the use of candles.

But, as I said, I see candles used all the time.

I do not see torches being used. I think they definitely enforce the no torches rule.

Thanks! I guess we can bring them :confused3 Isn't it easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission!!:rotfl:
I think I have some mosquito coils as well........but I think they smell worse than the candles.

I just thought of something else on this topic. I am almost certain that I have seen citronella candles for sale in the trading posts. They are in little galvanized buckets. I'll check this out the next time I am at the Fort. If they sell them in the trading post, I assume that they're OK to use at the Fort.

If you can find them, try the OFF lanterns. They work better than citronella candles IMO and smell a LOT better than the coils. Plus the candle part is inside, so there's really no open flame. And they're refillable.

They worked great in the woods of MA last summer. :thumbsup2

My DH bought a bug zapper. Nothing says relaxtion then listening to a bunch of bugs frying. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

We were there the last week in August this past year, right after a hurricane/tropical storm went through. There was so much standing water that the mosquitos were horrible. The first night he plugged it in all you heard for 5 minutes was zptzptzptzptzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. There was no break. :rotfl::rotfl:

That's okay, the little sons of XXXX still bit me to death. :headache:
