This is not correct and a big misconception by whole milk drinkers. 49% of the calories in each cup of whole milk is all fat! :scared1:

One cup of whole milk is 146 calories with 8 grams of fat. Each gram of fat contains 9 calories of fat. So 8X9= 72 calories of each cup of milk is fat(49 percent)! That is not good. Drinking one cup of milk (vitamins aside) is like eating 1/2 of a Snicker's candy bar when you look at calories and fat. That really adds up over time, or can make a difference in losing weight by just switching to skim milk which has 80 calories per cup and no fat.
::yes:: absolutely!

And even if a person only has half a cup a day on his cereal, skim, 1% or even 2% is usually part of an overall low fat eating plan. A low fat vinaigrette salad dressing instead of ranch, mustard on your sandwich instead of mayo, a squeeze of fresh lemon on your veggies instead of a pat of butter (OR margarine :laughing:). All the little bits add up and can make a real difference.

We usually do whole raw milk, but since we moved, it's an hour+ to get it. We drink organic whole when we can't get raw. My little one has a milk sensitivity, so he typically drinks goat milk, coconut milk or almond milk.

I was buying 1%, since DD was the only one drinking it and she is a string bean. Now, I buy skim, because I have made a change in my eating habits- trying to eat healthier by cutting calories and making what I eat have as many nutrients as possible (trying to stop eating "empty" calories). I started eating breakfast of high fiber cereal and skim milk with fruit.

We drink skim plus (brand is Farmland), this stuff rocks. Doesn't taste like skim and is awesome! Fat free, high in protein and calcium. Only downside is the price. It also lasts a long time so I never waste any (we are not big milk drinkers).

Infants are not supposed to drink any milk until they are one year of age.
They should be drinking only breast milk or formula their first year.
I just looked at their website, and the only reference to whole milk I see is that it should only be given to children under age 1. There is no mention of not giving dairy milk to children under age 1. Our pediatrician put both our children on whole milk as a suppliment to breast milk at 2 months of age. Both were "failing to thrive" because they just could not get enough calories from breast milk. But both weighed over 9 pounds at birth. No question, breast is best, but sometimes it just isn't enough. And of course these days you can find a study that concludes almost anything about anything. Last one I saw on dairy milk was the jump in allergies to dairy milk and lactose intolerence may be linked to parents waiting too long to introduce dairy milk. Oh well, my kids are adults now, so isn't even on my list of things to worry about anymore
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends now (guidelines changed in 2008) that children who are no longer breastfeeding between the ages of 1 and 2 should drink 2% milk, not whole milk. It used to be thought that toddlers needed the fat content in whole milk for proper brain development, but long-term studies showed this was not true. Due to climbing obesity rates, 1 year-olds should now be given 2% milk until age 2. At age 2 they should be switched to 1%.
.

I've been drinking fat free milk for over 35 years now - I can't stand the taste of whole milk (like drinking butter). Even 2% milk has a lot of fat grams in it.

We use mostly soy milk unless I make homemade ice cream, then we use whole milk.

Doesn't matter to me. I save fat calories elsewhere. Our doctor says real butter and whole milk are much better for you unless you're overweight which we aren't. Drinking anything other than whole milk is to me like drinking decaf coffee.

I don't drink milk but if I were to drink it I would only drink whole milk anything else is just grossly watery. I do put cream in my coffee and that is the closest I come to "drinking" milk. I don't even put regular whole milk in coffee, it waters it down too much. I want real cream.
