Another Banking Question

I will try to get the question right.

I have an Aug use year.
I have 124 banked 06 points that need to be used by July 31 2007-got that part.

I have 150 2007 points that can be used up to July 31 2008, or banked by 4 months out which is March 31st- I think I got that part.

I have 150 points coming Aug 1 2008- no borrowing has taken place.

I want to book a 2 bedroom in September 2008. Do I need to bank my current 07 points to 08 to do that? This is what I was told today by MS. If the answer is yes that is fine I just figured I could book the 08 vacation with 08 points as long as they are available and not borrowed prior to booking.

Did I get bad information? If so I need to call and get that corrected. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would always want to use the points the expire the soonest first. Not sure why you wouldn't want to use '07 points before '08 points.

That is a good question and I deleted the long winded answer prior to posting.

If I do not bank the 07 points I can transfer them, rent them or bank them with greater flexibility now.

If I want to go down between then and now I have 126 2006 points banked that I need to use before end of July.

If you are planning to use some of the 2007 points for a reservation along with the ones that expire on July 31 then do that and bank the rest into the 2008 UY for the Sept 2008 reservation. Then if you have some left from the 2008 UY you can plan another trip before July 31 2009 or bank them into the 2009 UY. Don't miss your deadline for banking if you are not planning to use those 2007 points before July 31. MS was right in the information you were given. You do not have to bank them but if you don't have plans for them it is the wise thing to do. If you then decide you want to do a quick last minute trip before Aug1 2008 you can borrow 2008 points if you have them left after making the September 2008 reservation with your banked ones.

I called MS and unbanked my points. This gives me the flexibility of 2 months to either rent of possibly transfer the 07 points.

I made the 08 use year ressie with 08 points. I also confirmed with MS that if I ultimately do bank some or all of the 07 points they can reallocate banked points the 08 reservation and free up 08 points. This offers me more much more flexibility during the next couple of months for planning purposes.

How were you able to unbank your points? I was always told that once you banked it cannot be undone.

I cannot say for sure why but this is my guess based on teh conversation I had. I called originally at about 3:45 and had the conversation with a MS that indicated:
A) I had to bank all my points now in order to make a reservation in 08. I would not be able to bank the needed points now and any left over points before my 4 month window. I absolutely knew this was not true and after my MS person checked she said I would only have to bank the needed points and could bank the remaining up to my four month window.

B) The person at MS told me I HAD TO BANK my 07 points to make an 08 use year ressie. Although I asked her repeatedly she insisted that was needed. After I hung up and started to look into the HAD TO BANK 07 in order to reserve in 08 I got some valuable feedback, here and from a friend.

I called back @ 4:45ish explained what had transpired and she fixed the problem. I dont think its a case of they now unbank points, they were willing to correct a mistake they made, for which I am grateful.
