I posted a few weeks ago about my ant problem and didn't much of a response so I wanted to try it on a weekend....

I have ants that are in LOVE with my cats food....

I live on the second floor so could they have built a nest inside my walls? Or do they climb up the walls (on the outside) and come in through my porch door....anyway whichever it is I need HELP quick......

I think that my cat may be eating them (due to them being in the food) and getting sick from it......

Please anyone that can please let me know a safe way to kill the ants without harming my kitties....

Thanks

Have you tried to find some info online? I believe that chalk line or powder line detours ants. They can be coming in from a crack in the door where its not quite a good seal. We have that and we spray ant spray along the floor plate of the door. It seems to help for a month or so. If they are coming from in the wall, I would check online. I have never dealt with them in the wall before. Are they big black ants or those tiny ones? I bet you could get some info online;):goodvibes

Have you tried cinnamon? Ants were coming in through my sliding door to get to the dog food. I put cinnamon in the runner, and the ants left. If they are coming in from the wall put a line of cinnamon along the base board. It sounds crazy, but it does work, and then you do not have to worry about the pesticides on your cats paws. Hope this helps you.

It may be extreme, but you could get an anteater as a pet. I'm not sure how they get along with cats though.

See if you can find the ant trail to the cat food. Follow it until you can find out where they're coming in. If it's the patio door, you can spray along the outside of it with Raid or something similar. If you see any small holes where they're coming in, you can patch them with caulk. You can also put some ant stakes or ant traps (like Grant's) outside. They go inside the little traps and take the poison back to their nests. I agree that you'll probably find some good info online about pet-safe ant extermination methods.

We have an exterminator who comes every 2 months to spray for ants and roaches. He sprays the entire perimeter of the house and we haven't seen one since.

If you lay any of those little ant traps and find them not working, trying pouring a little syrup through them. That drives them right in to their death.

First find the ant trail. Then put down Borax, or boric acid salt on the trail. The workers will get it onto their bodies and carry it back to the nest and will transfer it to the queen thru contact. This will kill the queen and all ants that come in contact with the Borax, or boric acid salt

But you have to be careful with the traps and make sure curious kitties can't get them. Our kitten likes to try to get them and play with them. We had to get creative with where we put them.

Ants also don't like mint. That is something else you can use to keep them away.

Another place they like to come in is along power or cable lines. Isn't that crazy? I sure thought so! We couldn't figure out where they were coming in. When our exterminator came out he told us they sometimes come in along the cables. He comes out every 3 months but we have had to have him come twice since his last maintenance visit because of the ants. They seem to be real resilient this year. When we get a lot of rain is when they start coming in on us.

Terro Liquid Ant Baits, look at it on youtube, it really works, check on the safety because that I'm not sure of.

do you have a shower or a tub? My mother in law has this problem, her solution is to put the cat foot in the shower and for some reason they do not go into there. Cat finds it great. It's a win win for her, no pesticides, no ants and if the cat makes a mess eating, it's contained to a small area.

Store the cat's food in a tight plastic container. Put the cats dish inside a glass pan and fill the bottom of the pan with water -- the ants can't cross water.

Then find where they're coming in and find some of the remedies listed. They were coming through my pantry so I did the above and put the Terro in the pantry, making sure the door was always closed.

:lmao: Really! Where do you get those? I have never heard of that. Is that a joke and I am extremely gullible:rotfl:

It is a joke, but surprisingly anteaters are considered exotic pets and are legal to own with proper licensing. Besides helping the ant situation, if you have children, this pet will instantly catapult your child's status to "coolest kid in class".

:rotfl: Yeah, sure beats the puppies, goats and kittys being brought in.
