Another Annual Pass Question

My two kids (11, 12) and I are going to WDW in November for a special birthday trip. Right now we just have a 5 day base ticket. I am thinking about upgrading our tickets to an AP to use next summer on an extended stay trip. We already have rooms at POP reserved for this trip. We are doing some of the extra events (party, tour, etc.) for this trip. Is it better to go ahead and buy the passes now or wait to upgrade when we get there? If I wait will it mess with our FP that will be made before we go? Thanks in advance!!

At this point I have put a deposit on a package through a travel agent. Due to the months out I don't mind cancelling and starting over if I do whatever I do soon.

Short answer is that you can upgrade to an AP if you have regular MagicYourWay tickets.
The upgrade won't affect any pre-booked FP+.
