We have been having fun playing with our points and trying to squeeze as much time in as possible. Now I am trying to figure out how to add in the extra factor of an annual pass. It almost becomes an art form when you figure annual pass dates with the different DVC point "seasons."

So, here goes....
I am thinking about spending a week at SSR next summer (summer of '09) and then spending two weeks in the summer of '10. My goal is to do it all under one annual pass. It gets complicated because I would ideally like to hit the "Dream Season" (August 16-31) right before the kids go back to school BOTH years.

Is there a way to work the annual pass so that will work? If the start/end dates are literally one year apart, I assume that I can't do it, right?

You have a year from the date of first use to use your AP. Well, actually, it is 366 days, because you can still use it on the expiration date, so they add a day to your "year". So, if you go an AP and start it in '09, you will want to do 1 week that starts at the end of August and follow it up with a two week trip the following year that ends by August 31.

It would only work if you could start the trip after or on the 30th in '09 so you could end on the 30th in '10.

We have worked the AP angle many times, and love the fact that you can get two trips on one AP even though you are basically traveling only once a year. The problem with your scenario is that August time frame. We have usually done it in January, and that is much easier. Another option might be to take the first trip during any school break you might have in October or November and then take the second trip the end of August. The points for October are pretty easy too. Schools around here have time off in October for teacher union meetings, so lots of folks take that opportunity to travel in a different season.

You might be able to do 2 slightly shorter vacations, as follows:

2008 First year: August 26 - September 7 (26th would be your first annual pass day)
2009 Second year: August 16 - August 27 (could use your pass up through 26th)

The annual pass could be used for both of these. Something like this could work. Other configurations could work, just make sure the first year you use the later dates so your pass includes the second year earlier dates.

I am making the assumption the kids don't go back to school until September 8

We're fitting three trips in one year to maximize AP.
1st week of June '07
Mardi Gras "08 (Feb '08)
Last week of May '08 (family reunion):woohoo:

We started our AP on June 1st '07 and will end it on June 1st '08.
(22 days in total on one AP):cool1:

We managed 3 trips one year......I am open to doing it again! Maybe someday! For now I will just have to "settle" for our yearly trips we do get the 2 trips on 1 AP.
