Annual Pass?

I'm going on an adult-only trip in September, then a family trip in January so I'm considering buying an annual pass when there in September. Do you have to wait for the first day your tickets are active to upgrade to an annual pass? I'm doing one night room only, then starting a package the next day, so I'll have to wait until the second day to upgrade my tickets to the annual pass?

Also, for the trip in January, can you book a room with any AP discount offered as a package? I realize tickets would need to be left off, but can dining and the room be booked together with just a deposit? I know that it's not guaranteed that a room discount will be offered in January/February, but if it is are they usually pretty limited? We're a family of 5, so we'd need a room that can accommodate 5. I was thinking Port Orleans Riverside but wasn't sure how good of a chance I'd have at getting a room there with an AP discount. Any insight is appreciated!

You can activate your package tickets early by going to Guest Services. Go to GS and do the activation and upgrade to AP all in one visit.

AP discounted rooms can be booked as "ticketless" packages (room+dining) but only over the phone. It cannot be done online.

AP and FL resident discounts are the last to be offered. They're basically offered to fill up any leftover rooms after all of the other discounts have been booked. With CSR and CBR losing rooms to construction, Moderate Resort rooms have reduced inventory. There may not be a lot of surplus inventory by the time AP discounts are announced. There really is no way of knowing if there will be POR rooms included in an AP discount for your dates.

IMO, don't get an AP in anticipation of any room/dining/merchandise discounts. Get one if the price of admission is less than buying individual passes for each trip.
