Annual Pass - Seasonal vs preferred

DH and I currently have Seasonal passes and are headed for our last trip on these APs.

We'll be at Universal in May from a Monday mid-afternoon to early early Saturday morning. We are staying onsite and have no plans to leave the resort at all so all our food will be purchased there (well, lunches and dinners and butterbeer/butterbeer ice cream). We'll likely pick up some souvenirs, though not a ton.

Would it still make sense to upgrade one of us to the preferred pass for the food and merchandise discounts? Can I even do that without renewing (which we don't want to do). Definitely kicking myself a bit for not thinking of this on our original trip when we got them!

Preferred AP allows a 10% discount for food and merch

If you read the site about the ap, you will see the exclusions (carts, etc)

Get an idea of food costs since it would cover places in the parks, city walk and hotels

Not all in cw and hotels honor this discount

If you upgrade one of your ap to preferred, it would stay at the present expiration/ renewal rate seasonal time period

You can upgrade your pass at guest services
