Hi,
We currently have DVC discounted Premium Annual passes and they are soon due to expire. Can anyone tell me if I renew them with the basic Annual Pass (i.e. not Premium) can I still get them at the renewal rate or would I have to pay the first purchase price? We found that we didn't use the "extras" much on the PAP so a regular pass would be a better buy.
Thanks for your help.

Mick.

Yes, you can "downgrade" when renewing. As far as the renewal vs starting a new AP, you need to consider how long a period it will be between the end of your existing AP and purchasing the new AP. If its more than ~45 days, you're probably better off buying a new AP because it will then run longer. If you renewed, your AP will expire sooner.

Be careful not to let yourself into the 30 days past expiration window of the annual pass. We were blocked from the Annual Pass website because our passes expired on 7/23 and were going down on 8/22. Many cast members told us we had a window and we did but we could not access the website. Also, the prices went up on August 1st. However, disney magic and pixie dust came into play and we were able to renew at the old rate!

Actually, that was my point. There is a time where it becomes better for you to buy the new pass instead of a renewal. It depends on when your old pass expired and when your next trip was.

Take this example; You visit twice a year, your pass expires in May, but your next trip to WDW won't be until December. If you renew in May, you pay for 7 months that don't do you any good. But if you buy a new one for your December trip (and thus forego the discount), you get a full 12 months from then.

Thats were I am at. I plan to use my annual for the third time in March and it will the expire. So in October I will just buy a new one.

i had a hard time getting the CM at the int'l gateway ticket window to understand this. she was literally scolding me for letting my AP expire w/o renewing. i tried to tell her, i was trying to "buy" more time by letting it go and starting it up with this next trip (it was in oct) and then i'd have a year from that date but she kept saying, but you could have saved money by renewing it at expiration, now you are paying more. i said, but i am GETTING MORE time which i will need next year!!!
