Annual pass renewal questions with DVC discount?

Our current AP's expire March 18. It looks like I may be taking a trip to the world next month. We would arrive around the 14th. It seems like I have read that you could renew at the renewal rate within a month of you renewal date (18th). Can I renew at the gate and get my DVC discount? Do I lose out on some discount by not purchasing online. It looks like if I renew now, that it would start my new year on March 18th. I would really like to buy myself those extra weeks on the new pass, just in case we went around that time next year. What should I do?

If you get the renewal, your new AP will begin the day after the old one expired (March 19)- so there is no benefit in waiting. If you want a new expiration date, you will need to pay full price. Since you are going again so close to your renewal date, that will be the better deal for you with the DVC discount. If you were not going for 3-6 months, getting a new AP would probably be best.

Enjoy! :)

If you do choose to renew, your expiration date will be March 18, 2008. WDW calls it your anniversary date.

Unless it has changed very recently, you do indeed have a 30 day grace period to renew so you could do so when you arrive on 4/14. However, March 18 will still be your anniversary date.

You definitely have the grace period. Our passes expired 2/18/07. I renewed them 3/5 using the DVC discount, and received the renewal rate. The new ones expire 2/19/08.

Then that is a change if you received an extra day. I had the same anniversary date for several years. Never got an extra day.

To continue this discussion all by myself:rotfl2: , Doc and Lisa will you please check your dates. Three of us purchased new APs in Jan (our old anniversary dates were in Oct so it made sense to buy new APs but our daughter's expired on 1/4. I renewed hers on 1/5 and her pass is good until 1/4.

Perhaps this has changed in the last two months? Where is GoldenOldie when we need her? Just kidding.:goodvibes

We just renewed ours in January. They expired on 1/11/07 and we renewed them that day. The new ones are marked that they expire on 1/12/08.

I purchased my AP in Oct. 06. It will expire on Sept. 30th. I used it Oct. 06, Jan. 07 and hope to get a trip in in Aug.

I won't be going back again until jan. 08. I plan on just getting a new AP to start in Jan. Can I still get the DVC discount on the new pass, even though I had one that I didn't renew?

I'll double check my dates when I get home, but I'm fairly certain that my old one expired 2/18/07 and my new one expires 2/19/08. When you buy passes, they are good for 366 days, so each year you renew, it should grow by a day.

And TEK, the DVC discount is available even without the renewal. The price is just different if it's a renewal (i.e. you can stack the renewal discount and the DVC discount).

Doc and Lisa, thanks for the replies. I wonder if the policy changed between 1/5/07 when I renewed my daughter's and 1/11 when Doc renewed theirs?:confused3

However, the annual passholders website still states "Keep in mind that your renewed Pass will expire one year from your Anniversary Date regardless of when you renew."

Lisa, it is true that you get 366 days (or 367 in Leap Year) on APs if you let them expire since they are good the day you buy them as well as that same date the next year. But we've had APs for over 10 years now and most years have renewed them. Every time we have renewed, the Anniversary Date has remained the same. It has never bumped forward one day.

TEK, if you purchased a new AP in October, it shouldn't expire in September.
As Lisa, said you can certainly get the DVC discount on a new AP although I wouldn't really call it stacking the discounts. The DVC discount on new APs is $100 off a regular AP and $75 off a renewal. The break if renewing without a DVC discount is $42.60 including tax.

Since this affects my family's planning, I asked on the Theme Park forum. Golden Oldie who knows everything there is to know about tickets replied:

So it sounds like Doc and Lisa received some extra pixie dust that can't be expected....just a nice surprise when it happens!:cloud9:

I can't swear that my date changed. When I went to look at my pass, I realized that since I don't have the old pass, I don't know for SURE what the date was.
