Annual Pass Renewal question

I think I already know the answer to this but...My AP expired in Mid-August. I did not renew before the expiration date. Can I assume that the discount to renew is no longer offered? Also, is there a grace period to renew your pass using your old expiration date or do they just send you a new voucher to activate on your next visit? I'd like to just get a new voucher with a new expiration date since we won't be returning before next year. Thanks.

If you do not renew before it expires you do not get the discount

There is a 30 day grace period after your expiration date that you can renew and still get the discount.

This is from Dis - www.wdwinfo.com - The disney site must be down, I could not get to the AP page....

When renewing, you must do so within 30 days of your pass expiring. Your "start date" remains the same.

Allearsnet -
In 2000, Walt Disney World changed the Annual Passholder renewal policy. The new policy states that your renewal Annual Pass becomes effective the day after your current Annual Pass expires. Previously, if you renewed by mail, you received a voucher which was not activated until you were at the theme park and traded your voucher in for a new Annual Pass. Now your renewal voucher exchange will be back dated to the expiration date of the previous pass.

In some cases would it not be better to just let the AP expire and get a new one at full price if you are not visitng for some time - otherwise you are "wasting " all that time that you know you will not be visiting.

My sister did this in April - she renewed her AP that she had already used for enough visits to have made it worth her while.... BUT she is now not coming back until NOVEMBER, so from mid-April until the end of November she knew she would not use the AP - I would think it would have benefited her to buy a new pass when she arrived her for her trip in November, that would have been good until the next November..... now unless she comes back to visit me prior to May 5th, she will only get one visit out of her AP..... I didn't realize she was renewing, and didn't have time to DO THE MATH with her.....

That is correct. They will renew them 30 days on either side of the expiration date, and your "anniversary date" remains the same.

Thank you. That's what I was looking for. I haven't been able to get on the AP site either. I think I'll wait until after 30 days and get a new pass voucher so I can have a later expiration date. I can't think of any advantage of renewing right now since we don't have a trip planned for the rest of the year. One more question...are the vouchers good indefinitely? IOW, if I buy the AP in October can I still validate in say February or April or June without any problems???

Yes. This is a good way to lock in at the current price. You can also use the code from your voucher to log into the AP web site during those extra months.
