We go to F&W every year. We have an annual pass that expires end of November 2017. We are debating if we should renew or wait until next year near F&W and purchase the annual pass. Forgo the renewal discount to get "extra time" to eventually save $$$ over next 5 years by spacing the purchases out several months each year?

May go some years for spring break time also. Anyone else done the Math on this?

I have a trip in January and my pass expires Dec 6. I'm not renewing until next November, when I will use a new pass.

Your renewed AP will start the day after your current one expires. If you don’t plan to visit for almost a full year, why renew?

I have had an AP 3 times in the past 5-6 years and always have a bit of a gap between renewals because there are times of the year that I just never go and it didn't make sense to get the discount and not go for so many months. I'm still getting my money's worth out of the passes.

If you don't plan to go again before the 2018 F&W festival, I would wait. Get a new AP in Say, October 2018, go to F&W in Oct 2018, then go to F&W again in September 2019.

If you wait until your next trip and buy a new annual pass then, then will that AP cover an additional vacation that renewing your present AP sooner would not cover? If the answer is NO then you would be better off renewing.

we plan our APs to get full week+ long trips in separate years on a single pass, and then procure a new AP when we are ready for our next cycle of trips: This AP: Sept '17-Sept '18 with a 9 day trip Sept-Oct '17 and we'll get our week long trip in right before the pass expires in Sept '18. Next pass probably in 2021-2022 and will plan for the same thing, probably December '21-December '22.

I agree with PP, I wouldn't see the need to renew a pass if you had no intention of using it until next fall. We are getting 4 trips out of our AP, 2 long and 2 short.

Like PP have stated, it really depends on how you are going to use the AP. I got mine when I was down there for a 10 day trip with my family. They did 5 days in parks, and I did 10, but everyone got to use my discounts (so long as I was with them) and the photo downloads made everyone happy.

I've since been down for a long weekend in October, and am taking a week long trip in May, where I will renew my pass. I try to get at least 12 park days on my pass. That is what makes it for me. But I'm a solo traveller usually, so I will make time for a weekend trip whenever I can find cheap airfare and hoteling.

The only reason I'd renew my AP with such a big break between trips is if I was certain AP price would double by my next trip. I figure cost per day since we go to DL 30+ days a year, but you can figure cost per month too:
Effectively, you buy an "x" month pass, not an annual pass, if you don't go every month. If you waste 3 months without going, that is a 9-month pass.
