Have searched, but haven't seen this answered. If we purchase AP's before the deadline in Jan. '17 getting 13 months (for 12), when will they become active? From purchase date, or when we plan to start using them in April?

If you purchase an AP "certificate" (in-person) or buy an AP on-line or on the phone, it must be activated in-person at WDW in order to gain entry to the parks... and only then does it begin to start its active "counting down."

Thanks! Did not know if the AP's were the same as regular tickets in activation.
