Annual pass question

When you purchase an annual pass online or over the phone, is the actual pass mailed to you, or a voucher? We have bought APs at Disney before and received a voucher to trade in at the gate, I was wondering if Universal does it the same way?

You don't get the actual annual pass since you have to get your picture taken and it placed on the card. You either get a voucher by mail or pick it up at guest services to have it processed.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping for. I didn't want to order ahead of time if the passes were considered activated as soon as I got them. We won't be heading down until the end of June, but I was hoping to pick up my passes soon just to get it out of the way.
