I have almost talked myself into buying DVC. My concern is that on top of the membership I will have to spend a lot in park tickets. My guide mentioned that DVC members get discounts on annual passes to WDW and DL but can someone tell me the exact prices for these. Also have they changed much in the past from the price they are now? Also do the WDW passes work at DL or do they have to be purchased seperately? I appreciate any info I can get princess:

Here are the DVC prices:
WDW AP Adult : $348
WDW AP Child : $307
WDW Premium AP Adult : $454
WDW Premium AP Child : $400

DL Deluxe AP : $239
DL Premium AP : $359

Now to your other question, I would be careful making a decision on buying into DVC based upon AP discounts. It is possible sometime in the futher that DVC may decide to stop offering the discounts on the APs.

You would need tickets for each. Disney does not have a global ticket. A shareholder brought it up at the last annual shareholders meeting.

Pass and ticket prices seem to increase once or twice per year.

Can you buy a DVC annual pass before yours has expired and just hold on to it (like the voucher, etc.) and wait and activate it at some point in the future?

I do realize that of course you have to show your ID and membership card upon activation. Just wondering if they can be bought at today's price, but possibly not used for another year or so.

We have done this in the past with the 10 day non-expiring tickets before they increased in price.

Good question. I would like to know this as well. How long could you hold the voucher for the annual pass? Do they expire?

For a renewal, it has to be done within 30 days (on either side) of your original AP expiration date and the clock starts ticking once the original has expired, as far as I know.

For a new AP, you can keep the voucher indefinitely before activating it.

Being new members last year we bought Premium AP's knowing that we'd be there for a week last summer and then for only 3 days this summer pre-cruise. We calculated that it would be cheaper to buy the AP's and be able to use them this summer than to have to buy 3 days of park passes this year. It also put the hit on the money LAST year so it will soften the blow of our expenses this summer.

But I think they WILL lead to you spending more money at Disney. What happened for us was since we already had our park tickets we decided we should try to use them again for another trip inbetween! So we went in January for a long weekend....this was our first ever trip anywhere in January and we enjoyed it A LOT but this amounted to extra airfare and we were out of points (didn't want to borrow) so we had to do a cash ressie! So, yes, the AP is a great plan if you're buying them knowing that you will go 2 or 3 times or for extended stay trips... But I think in our case they LED to us going for that extra trip...we wanted to make sure we got our money's worth out of them - and by the time we go again in July, we WILL...but we normally wouldn't have splurged for that January trip.

We will not be renewing our AP's as we do not know when we'll make it back and I don't want the clock to be ticking on them. IF we renewed them this summer then I'd HAVE to be planning another trip already!:rotfl: :scared: We may actually consider the 10 day non-expiring ones for the next time. Wish there was a discount for those too!

Yes APs plus DVC = more trips to WDW! It's too easy to say all we need is airfare and we'd be eating anyway and there's another short trip!:confused3

Right now DH and I have APs, but when they expire I think we'll get some 10 day NE with Waterparks (10 visits) from a Mousesavers recommended broker and try to low down our visits with more time at the parks.

However it is so nice to be able just to hit a restaurant and IllumiNations!

Not helping here....

Just a question to add on the prices. I saw that you have 30 days after they expire to renew. Does the new pass expire 1 year from the renewal or 1 year when your orignal pass expired.

Your ticket expires one year after the original ticket was activated. So I bought my first ticket in July, and had it activated on December 23. So every year my ticket renews on December 23. BTW, you can buy a voucher for farther ahead than 30 days. Last year we got free dining with the purchase of a 1 day ticket. The renewal price of $296 arrived in September--way too early--but we grabbed it, as the prices were due to increase, and applied the 1 day ticket from August. We were sent a green renewal voucher, and used it on our December tickets, just as though we had sent them the increased price of $348 30 days ahead of time.:woohoo:

Thanks for the corrected info - I thought Cheshire Figment had posted it was 30 days on either side, but I'll keep my eye on that and perhaps buy early before ours expires next time.

Last year our AP was due to expire 10/25 but prices were going up and I renewed online in Aug and got voucher to use10/25.

We currently have APs that expire 8/16/08, We bought DVC today. So obviously we can buy new passes at the discounted DVC price, but is there another price break if we are renewing as opposed to buying new passes? Does that make sense?

There is a bit of a savings for a renewal versus a new pass ($33). However, you may want to look at when you will be using the pass and whether it makes sense to wait until your next trip since the renewal starts from the end of your current pass.

Is that $33 off the DVC price or the regular price?
I thought the renewal rate on a regular price pass was about $40 off.

You are absolutely right - we had decided not to renew because we won't be back between Aug. 08 and Aug. 09 so it would be silly to renew this time. I was just wondering if there was an extra discount renewing an AP at the DVC rate. :)

There is a $33 dollar difference between the DVC AP price and the DVC AP renewal price.

I had an annual pass that expired last October but I decided to wait to renew. If I had renewed, the pass would have only covered my May trip. By waiting and getting a new pass that I will activate on Thursday, I will be able to use the same pass for all 3 of my trips this year.

Great! Thanks for the info! :goodvibes

We bought our passes last August, and used our single day passes from "free dining" as credit towrds the purchase. We were there for 9 nights last August, 4 nights in December, and we have 16 nights coming up this August. We go home the morning after the passes expire. :rotfl:

It would be silly to buy new passes this year since we could very possibly get 2009 and 2010 out of the passes if we buy them next summer.

as of April '08, the regular AP price (not the premium w/ the water parks) was $477.12...the renewal price was $434.52. This is for adults. For children (3-9), it is $420.68 and $383.40, respectively which is a savings of $42.60 per adult and $37.28 for children. (these prices include tax).

The DVC price according to the PERKS book is $348 for adult and $307 for child...renewal price is $315 and $278 respectively (before tax here). The overall price for a new pass (again, before tax) is a savings of $100 for adult and $88 for children. For renewals, it is $93 and $82 (before tax).

As others have said...I knew we wouldn't be going between our last trip until October and didn't want to waste those precious months. So, I let them expire and then bought them new again. I have my certificates and will activate them when we go in October. In fact, a cast member recommended I do that now and just activate when I need to since the price will ultimately go up.

Note though...I bought them BEFORE I joined DVC. But I visited Guest Services and because I haven't activated them yet, they will credit me the difference back to my CC# which is AWESOME since that is close to $400! So, while I would agree I wouldn't join DVC BECAUSE of the annual pass discount, it certainly is a nice perk! :)
