annual pass info needed

Can I purchase one annual pass and then schedule hotels at the discount? This is my families first trip to wdw and just don't know how to plan our trip. We have air fare but have not planned any other events or hotels.
Please help!!

It's been our experience that you don't need an AP when you make room reservations- you just need to have one at check-in, and only one adult in your party would need to have one. Be aware that AP discounts for hotel rooms may or may not be available at the time of your trip. I hope this helps.

I would call Disney Reservations [CRO] and ask if there are any AP rate rooms available the the resort, or resorts, you are most interested in. If the answer is yes go ahead and make the reservation and order your AP. They will mail you an AP voucher that you trade in for the real AP when you get there, your 1 year of use does not start until you trade in the voucher. If the answer is no ask if all the AP rooms have been booked of if no AP rates have been annouced yet for your dates. If they have all been booked you probably would not want to buy the AP unless you are going to be there for over 10 days. If they have not been annouced yet go ahead and book your reservation for the best price you can get [AAA or AARP membership will get you a 10% discount]. Keep on checking every few weeks to see if AP rates have come out for your dates, when they do call CRO back and give them your reservation number and ask for a AP rate room, then order your AP or just buy one when you get there. There is no discount for advance purchase of an AP. Good Luck and have fun.
