Hi!!

My fiance and I are brand new to DVC and are also doing our wedding and honeymoon next April in Disney. One of the perks for having your wedding at Disney is a free annual pass (which is pretty awesome!!)
We will be using the dining plan for our trip and have already added it to our reservation.
This is my question....can we activate our annual pass before we check in at BLT and then receive the DVC discount on our dining plan??
If this is possible, that would be pretty fantastic.

Any thoughts??

Congrats on your upcoming wedding. Honeymooning at the world is great...my DW and I did that more than 15 years ago and had a wonderful time.

Unfortunately having an AP does not give you any kind of a discount on the Dining Plan... only select restaurants throughout the world.

There is no discount on the dining plan that I am aware of. You might be thinking of the Tables In Wonderland discount which is something that costs I think $65 and is good for 13 months for a 20% at most of the restaurants in DW. I would get it anyway if you are planning on drinking adult beverages because the savings can definitely add up if you tend to celebrate a lot like us!! :)

Also, the Dining Plan does not allow for appetizers, they would be OOP over and above your dp meal credit. With TIW, you pay for your meal OOP, but you can get those appetizers if you want!

Disney Dining Plan for Passholders - Passholders can save up to 30% off dining. Just purchase the new Passholder Package that includes accommodations at a select WDW resort and the Disney Dining Plan. The Disney Dining Plan offers one Table Service meal, one Quick Service meal and one snack at over 100 participating restaurants including Character Dining. If you want, you can even choose the Disney Deluxe Dining or Dine & Wine plan, too.

I got this off of Allears
This is what I was talking about...but I do not know if this is accurate

LOL...i think i just answered my own question...we would have to make a package reservation with our annual pass....which technically we have.

We bought into DVC on our last trip in September and booked our first DVC for April. We also received our vouchers for the AP at that time but have not activated it. When we booked our DVC trip we also added the Dining Plan for the 13 days we are there. Do you think when we activate the AP we can argue a case that this is a first time Annual Pass Package?

In reality, it doesn't really matter to me. The discounts we will be getting over our lifetime being in DVC are already wonderful....but who wouldn't like to save an extra 3

I interpret this to mean that you can save up to 30% by using the dining plan, as compared to paying out of pocket for your meals.

There's never been a discount on the purchase price of the dining plan, either for AP holders or DVC members.

The closest thing to a discount for DVC members buying the dining plan is that DVC members are currently not charged the seasonal price increase on the dining plan. I understand that in 2010 around each holiday and most of the summer will be considered the period for the seasonal increase on the dining plan.

I know I read about this increase on Allears.net and even here on the DISboards, but can't seem to find it right now.

Also, starting next year the dining plan prices change based on the time of the year. DVC members don't have to pay the "prime" rate.

That's how I interpret it too. Just marketing spin.

Here's another guess...
The 30% off is for the "Passholder Package". Is this package something for non-DVC members that requires guests to pay for annual passes, as well as to stay at a Disney resort? I believe the only way you can get the DDP (unless you stay at a DVC resort) is to book a package deal which includes tickets and hotel. Maybe those upgrading to annual passes are getting 30% off the DDP?

No, if you pay for the same dining out of pocket, you will save about 30% if you use the DDP. It's not another discount.
