I am about to make an offer for some points in Saratoga Springs. When do you pay your dues each year? e.g. are they paid in Jan 08 for your 08 points? Hope that makes sense.

Yes, dues are based on the calendar year, so in January of each year, you pay in advance for that year. If you bought in now for a September use year, you'd pay a pro-rata amount for the remainder of this year and then again in January for 2009.

Dues have absolutely nothing to do with use year. Many people confuse this issue. When you pay your 2009 dues in January, you are paying for calendar year 2009. You are NOT paying dues for your 2009 points.

If you must somehow prorate dues based on use year (for example you are buying or selling a contract) then the way to do it is to see how many months of a particular use year fall within a specific calendar year. For example, say you have an August Use Year. This means that 7 months of the calendar year apply to one use year, and 5 months apply to a different use year. Thus in this example, 7/12ths of the 2008 calendar year's dues are applicable to 2007 August Use Year points (Jan-Jul, 2008), and 5/12ths of the 2008 calendar year's dues are applicable to the 2008 August Use Year (Aug-Dec, 2008) points. Calendar year 2009 would be calculated in a similar manner.

If you buy directly from Disney, you would pay dues for the remainder of the Calendar Year, regardless of whatever Use Year you purchased.

I cannot reinforce this enough. Maintenance fees do NOT APPLY to Use Years.
